Tortona City of Stage 2023: Bertram Derthona in 'pink' for the Giro d'Italia

The prestige and charm of one of the most important cycling races in the world, the Tour of Italy, returns to bond with Tortona and its territory. The 17 May 2023, six years after the last time, Corso Cavour will be the scene of the arrival of the 11tha stage of the “Corsa Rosa”. For the city and the territory, a great opportunity for visibility on a global level.

Today, at the Romita Hall of the Municipality of Tortona, in the presence of the Mayor Federico Chiodi, of the President of the City Council and of the Velo Club Tortonese Giovanni Ferrari Cuniolo the first initiatives linked to the event were presented, just over 100 days after the stage.

The Tortona area has always been linked to cycling: champions of the caliber of Giovanni Cuniolo, Serse Coppi, Costante Girardengo, Luigi Malabrocca, Andrea Sandrino Carrea and certainly not least Fausto Coppi were born here. And 2023 is a historic year, as underlined by the municipal administration, as it marks the seventieth anniversary of the last victory in the Giro d'Italia and the road world championship of the "Campionissimo" Fausto Coppi. Tortona will also be the capital of cycling in 2024, with the passage of a stage of the Tour de France.

The arrival of the stage, as highlighted today by Chiodi and Ferrari Cuniolo, represents a great stimulus for the city and its traders to increase their visibility. The first events, 100 days after the stage, will be the evening switch-on of the team Castle Tower and the theatrical show (scheduled at the Teatro Civico) de “The story of the Heron and the Bicycle that taught him to fly” scheduled for Thursday 26 January. Initiatives will then also be developed with other bodies and schools, with the aim of developing strong synergies with the most important entities in the area.

Among these, Bertram Derthona, for years supported by the Municipality of Tortona, which will wear a special pink overshirt on the occasion of the Italian Cup Final Eight scheduled at the PalaAlpitour in Turin from 15 to 19 February. “The idea – commented Ferencz Bartocci, CEO of Bertram Derthona Basket – is to celebrate a very important event for the city. Hoping to wear it for several days, the special overshirt will be put on sale at the end of the event and the proceeds will be reinvested in other events linked to the stage. The hope is that, just as we carry the name of Tortona around Italy on a weekly basis, the arrival of the caravan will also bring visibility to this splendid territory, its culture and its landscapes. As a Club we are available to the Administration and also to other city organizations for initiatives and synergies that will be activated in this period".

The countdown to the Giro d'Italia has officially begun, even the Bertram Derthona is dressed in pink to celebrate 'Tortona Città di Tappa 2023'.
