Lions in the final at the Over 40 World Championships in Montecatini
It's finals time for the "bianconeri" basketball players in the 14th edition of the World Basketball Championship for adults aged 40 and over, currently underway in and around Montecatini. Giovanni Noli (coach of the Derthona Basket youth teams), playing with the national Over 50s team, after victories in the preliminary round against Mexico 62-58 and Chile 108-50, defeated Georgia 108-81 in the round of 16, Croatia 92-55 in the quarterfinals, and Ukraine 83-66 in the semifinals. The pair of Massimo Falcin and Gianfranco Giani also performed well with the Italy Over 60s team (see photo), dominating the preliminary rounds against Colombia 78-43 and Mexico 64-38, respectively. They then beat Croatia 41-28 in the quarterfinals and Germany 57-51 in the semifinals, thus securing a spot in the final against the USA. The finals are scheduled for Sunday.
