Director Marco Picchi: «The Board of Directors made a heartfelt choice»
After announcing that Derthona Basket will join the A2 series in the next sports season, the general manager Marco Picchi takes stock of the situation. «The Board of Directors of Derthona Basket made a heartfelt choice by putting love for the team and for the black and white colors first. To date, however, the budget for setting up the team has not yet been fully defined. We gave ourselves two-three weeks to clarify the aspects related to the budget and meet our main partners with the aim of reaching a sufficient figure to ensure we can set up a competitive team. Derthona in recent years, from C2 to A, has always played top-level seasons, I believe there have been over 10 years of seasons ending with reaching the play offs and with a winning percentage of over 50%. We don't set up a team just to participate, it's not in our power even though we know that we can't compete to win the championship, we want to carry our colors around with great sporting dignity." The first step will be to talk to coach Demis Cavina. «As always, we start with the coach who is the first piece. It means sitting at a table and talking to Demis. We don't see a cycle as finished, the relationship between him and Derthona is based on very solid foundations and we would like to continue for further satisfaction. Derthona and Cavina are a perfect match. We took this week to understand Demis's will, ambitions and right aspirations. Only in the event that an agreement is not found would we think of a plan B which is not currently in our thoughts." After which Picchi comments on the work carried out by the technical and medical staff who worked with Cavina this year. Starting from sporting director Miro De Giuli up to the rest of the collaborators. «The argument for Miro is the same for all the staff. The American market is particular: we have almost always made the choice to change also because young people who have come to the fore, as in the case of Cosey, are led to think of other destinations both in terms of category and salary. We would like the idea of rejuvenating the team, we have a number of young owned players around. I would very much like to have a boy from Tortona like Flavio Gay, born in 1998, wear the black and white jersey, who made a name for himself and grew up in Derthona."
