Bertram Yachts is the new main sponsor of Derthona Basket

Bertram Yachts and Derthona Basket together for three years. This is the big official announcement given by president Roberto Tava and Dr. Beniamino Gavio, partner of the Gavio Group, owner of the Bertram brand, in the presence of the Mayor of Tortona Gianluca Bardone, in a Romita room of the Town Hall packed for the occasion. The prestigious American nautical brand will appear on the black and white shirts for the next three years, the first of a series of initiatives proposed by Dr. Gavio to Juventus management.

Mayor Gianluca Bardone did the honors: “Today Derthona is experiencing an important moment, that of the formalization of the agreement between the club and one of the largest groups in the Tortona area and throughout Italy. This is an important partnership, on the basis of which the company will be able to acquire further strength and will have the opportunity to give continuity to its action."

Thus the lawyer Roberto Tava, president of Derthona Basket: “I thank the Mayor Bardone and the sports councilor Vittoria Colacino for the hospitality and attention shown during this affair. Precisely from this room, just over a year ago, we had raised awareness in our area of the need to find a partner who could help our company emerge from the financial emergency that had been created following the progressive disengagement of the Ghisolfi family, who we will never stop thanking for what he has done for Derthona Basket. Today we can say that this appeal has been accepted. The Derthona will be combined with an icon of American boating, which has been acquired by the Gavio Group since 2015. We are extremely proud to welcome this handover between two excellences of this city such as the Orsi group and the Gavio group. This passage makes us aware of the path taken by this company and proud of what we have become during this journey. We are extremely happy with this partnership, which will last three years: it is our intention to repeat and, where possible, improve what we have done so far."

These are the words of Dr. Beniamino Gavio: “We are from Tortona, we are part of this territory and it is a pleasure to be able to combine a company from our group with a brand that has done so well in recent times. We didn't do it previously because the need hadn't arisen: the club was supported in a significant way by another family, while for our part we were happy to support youth football, of which we appreciate the growth aspects of the kids and sharing a common path. This year some things have changed and the request to take to the field alongside Derthona Basket has arisen to ensure financial coverage to build something lasting over time, and we felt that this was the right time to welcome it. Why the Bertram brand? Because we make boats in Tampa, Florida, and there was nothing closer to basketball than an American brand. We are motivated and enthusiastic: while waiting for the start of the season, this is the opportunity to wish the management and technical staff a big good luck."

President Tava then responded to some questions from the journalists present: “The founding nucleus of Derthona is made up of a group of friends – Tava specified – and in this sense the entry of a family that we all know is particularly appreciated. It is important to have a close and contiguous relationship with the group's key players and it will be a pleasure to host them at the PalaOltrePo' at the Bertram Derthona matches.”

On the composition of the budget, Tava specified: “The void left by the Ghisolfis has been filled partly by other sponsorships, which have existed and will probably continue in the coming seasons, and partly by the Gavio group. The budget corresponds to that of two seasons ago and will allow us to set up a team that can compete profitably in this championship. There are realities different from ours, in which history and the economic context have a different weight, but we have understood that with our means and our abilities we can challenge them head on, and this is what we intend to do in the future too. The most important thing is respect for the word given: this club has never wanted to go into debt, a choice that has led us to be an example of seriousness and organization. The problem we set ourselves was one of continuity: we wanted to overcome the problem of not knowing, from year to year, how many sponsors would confirm their commitment. This agreement allows us to plan in the short and medium term.”

The Dr. Gavio then exposed some projects which, in concert with the company and the municipal administration, will be developed in the coming months: "In light of the good relationship that binds me to the mayor of Tampa, I would like to build a path that can bring some young people from the Derthona's youth sector to experience basketball in America and vice versa. Furthermore, we are working with the Municipality and the company to build a project aimed at building a sports hall in Tortona. We would like to do something useful to the community, not only sporting but also cultural. We are evaluating feasibility, costs, and possible contributions from the institutions."

In closing, CEO Luigino Fassino announced the start dates of the 2016/17 sports season. The team will meet on the afternoon of August 16th for an initial athletic training session at the Cucchi sports field; the first training session at PalaCamagna, "open doors" for fans who want to meet the team, will take place on the afternoon of 17 August, while the 3rd Ghisolfi Memorial will be played in Tortona on 23 September against Piacenza.
Bertram Yachts was founded in 1960 when Dick Bertram – yacht broker, offshore sailing and racing motor yacht pilot – built the first Bertram – the 31' Moppie. Built to replicate the DEEP-V hull that broke records in the 1960 Miami-Nassau Motor Race, the Bertram 31 ushered in a line of sportfishing boats up to 80' that would be recognized by all for the excellent navigation and seakeeping qualities in inclement conditions. The company and its legend grow thanks to many noteworthy models, including the Bertram 28, the 46 and the 54 which leave their mark in the world of fishing.

In 2015 Bertram was acquired by a group led by Beniamino Gavio. An entrepreneur, as well as a passionate shipowner, Beniamino Gavio is also the head of the nautical brands Baglietto and CCN and is personally involved in the challenging objective of bringing the iconic American brand back to the laurels of its origins. In July 2016, Bertram Yachts inaugurated the new headquarters in Tampa, Florida and in just over a year from the launch of the first Bertram 35', a modern reinterpretation of the famous Moppie 31', of which it has already delivered 4 models in addition to having started the production of the first 60' hull which will be presented in the next 2017 winter season.
