Derthona Basket's 2026-27 season has begun: physical tests today, first training sessions tomorrow.
The 2026-27 season kicked off today for Derthona Basket, which will be sponsored by longtime title sponsor Bertram in national competitions and by a newcomer, Baglietto, in the BKT EuroCup. This marks the start of preparations leading up to the Bianconeri's first official match, the LBA Super Cup on September 19-20, to be played on the home court of the Nova Arena. The following week, the team will make its league debut against newly promoted Tezenis Verona in the first matchday of the LBA Serie A SisalClub, closely followed by their BKT EuroCup debut on the court of Riga Zelli.
The team coached by Mario Fioretti began their work this morning at the Cittadella dello Sport facility in Tortona with individual physical tests. Of the current Juventus players officially on the roster, all but two are present: Dominik Olejniczak and Prentiss Hubb. The Polish center is playing with his national team in the second phase of the European qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup and is scheduled to return in early September after two matches against Israel and Germany in late August. The American point guard was granted an extra half day to arrive due to his recent wedding, and is scheduled to arrive in Italy tomorrow morning.
Assistant coach Iacopo Squarcina, who is assisting Luca Banchi in his role as coach, is preparing for Italy's next two World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Serbia.
The first team workouts will have to wait until tomorrow morning. An athletics session is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Fausto Coppi Stadium in Tortona, followed by the first basketball practice at the Facility in the afternoon at 17 p.m.
With the exception of a two-day break for the August bank holiday, the first three weeks of training will consist of double daily sessions, including scrimmages against Fortitudo Bologna, Urania Milano, and Pallacanestro Cantù. Training sessions will be held behind closed doors for the time being.
