Interregional Serie B: Derthona Basketball Lab in the group with Piedmont and Lombardy. Formula and dates of the new, fourth national championship
In Group A of the North-West Conference . These are the official coordinates of Derthona Basketball Lab 's participation in the new Interregional Serie B championship , which kicks off in the 2023/24 season with 96 teams at the starting lineup, divided into four Conferences of 24 teams, each divided into two Divisions of 12.
The black and white team has been assigned to the group that includes seven of the eight Piedmontese teams in the category, along with five from Lombardy. Along with DB Lab—who will compete in the senior tournament again this year with the U19 Eccellenza youth team, fresh from promotion from the C Gold division—are College Basketball Borgomanero, Junior Libertas Casale Monferrato, Campus Piemonte Basketball, Oleggio Basket, and the other newly promoted teams Collegno Basket and Amatori Basket Savigliano, who compete in the many regional derbies. Basketball Gallarate, Omnia Basket Pavia, Campus Varese, Robur Basket Saranno, and Basketball 7 Laghi Gazzada represent some of the eleven Lombardy teams competing in the fourth-highest national championship.
FORMULA The regular season consists of 22 rounds of home-and-away matches. In the second phase of the tournament, each Conference will be divided into three pools of eight teams based on their final standing in the regular season: the Play-in Gold , with the teams ranked first to fourth in each of the two Divisions that comprise each Conference; the Play-in Silver , with the teams ranked fifth to eighth in each of the two Divisions; and a Playout that will see the teams ranked ninth to twelfth in both Divisions face off. In this second phase, each team will play eight round-robin matches against four opponents from the other Division, carrying over the points earned in direct clashes with the other teams in their own Division. The top six teams from the Play-in Gold and the top two teams from the Play-in Silver will advance to the playoffs (all best-of-three matches) to compete for promotion to the National Serie B. Each loser of the playoff final will play a best-of-three series against the loser of the playoff final of another Conference and the winner will be the one promoted to National B , which will therefore have a total of 6 teams promoted (the 4 winners of the playoff brackets, plus the two winners of the play-offs between the losers of the playoff finals).
The bottom two teams in the playout rounds of each conference will be immediately relegated to Serie C , while the third-to-last team will play a cross-playoff against the third-to-last team in another conference to save their division. There will be 10 relegations in total (the bottom two teams in the four playout rounds, plus the two losers in the playoff between the third-to-last teams in the playout rounds).
DATES The season begins on the weekend of October 1st, with the regular season ending on March 3rd. A two-week break will follow, and the second phase will begin on March 17th, concluding on April 28th. The playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 5th, with the final deadline being June 23rd. The playouts will start on the same day, but will conclude much earlier, on May 19th.
