A chat with Marco Picchi…
Arriving at the beginning of August, we exchanged a few words with Marco Picchi to hear his thoughts, his expectations 20 days from the start of a new and unknown adventure.
– Marco, not even time to celebrate the victory in Cervia and immediately catapulted into the new adventure
” I won't deny that it's been a hectic few weeks. In a few days we found ourselves catapulted into another dimension, the fascinating and demanding one of Serie A. We started with Demis Cavina for his CV but above all for his great desire to experience this new adventure with us in the knowledge of having chosen the best in the range that the coaching market offered us. I was impressed by his passion for the game and the amount of work he produces every single day. ”
– The change has inevitably also involved society.
"I immediately thought that we needed an expansion of the corporate base beyond the new legal form required by law. I like the metaphor of the American university, I call it College Derthona because I believe that our strength is the bond that unites many people who, even just one day in their lives, have worn the black and white tank top. Tava and Fassino are the tips of an iceberg, strictly from Tortona, which today involves almost twenty people who "live" and "think" Derthona every day: they are our strength. ”
– The team is almost complete. There is room for a foreigner and then the unders to close the circle.
” We are close to closing with the second foreigner who will have to be a versatile and athletic big man to complete the department with Rotondo, Valenti and Strotz. It will be the last piece of a market in which first of all we have established a salary cap to stay within the budget, always looking for men as well as athletes capable of making us look good. It's a team that intrigues me. ”
– at this point a question about objectives comes naturally.
"First of all, the fundamental thing must be remembered: saving yourself in this A2 Silver essentially means winning another championship by virtue of the reform that in 2015 will lead to the merger with the Gold. Therefore, direct salvation is our goal: the sooner we reach our goal, the sooner we will be satisfied with our season, always remembering that we will compete with a very high level of all the competitors. ”
– Speaking of competitors, the calendar is out. A comment ?
"I can't give you an opinion on the calendar for a very simple reason: I read the rosters of the opponents and they all seem very competitive. I expect a championship leveled upwards with at least a dozen teams that can aspire to the playoffs."
– Among all the news, there is also that of the field. For regulatory reasons it cannot be Tortona but will be played in Voghera.
"Leaving the Palazzetto, leaving Tortona is an open wound, there's no point in denying it. It is from an emotional point of view and it is from a technical point of view because we cannot forget that our "climb" towards Serie A had the Camagna as the main theater and we could be missing that pitch factor. But I know Tortona and if I know our audience I think they would even walk 15 km! ”
– As you said before, being in the Gold 2015/2016 would re-present the arena problem (2000 seats needed ed.). So what?
“There is the area in Tortona, there is the availability of the Municipality, there is the desire to do it. What if Derthona Basket was the one to make it happen? ”
