Seven days, three games and three victories. One of the most difficult and important weeks of this season could not have been better for Derthona Basket who completed their string of successes by also winning the derby against Pavia at Uccio Camagna.
After the victory at the Paladozza and the success of Orzinuovi in the Italian Cup, coach Arioli and his boys completed the slam by beating Nadirex Pavia of the former Degrada and coach Petitti in front of their own fans with a final score of 70-64. A game with two faces for the Bianconeri: masters of the match for the first 24 minutes, in physical difficulty in the remaining 16 but still good and determined when the ball gets hot.
Honorable mention for this Sunday goes to Giuliano Samoggia who scored 21 points, 6 of which were scored in the last and decisive minute with Nadirex sprinting to victory after recovering a gap of close to 20 points.
As previously mentioned, Derthona started strong and dominated the first two periods, even flying to +19 at the end of the first quarter with an eloquent 23-4 score. In the second half, however, Nadirex partially managed to shake off the torpor at the start of the match and limit the damage by going into the half-time break at -17 (40-23).
In the second half the match definitely changes face: the perfect machine Derthona begins to jam and Nadirex takes advantage of it by gradually closing the gap and making the most of the clear physical decline of the men coach Arioli: the tour de force of the last seven days begins to take its toll in the mind and above all in the legs of Gioria and his companions who, however, have the merit of never losing their head despite the hard blows coming from the former Degrada, author of a capital performance, and of an excellent Sanlorenzo who under the bridge is good and bad weather.
The match arrives in the final and decisive period in great balance with Derthona who, despite the difficulties, have the merit of never giving up and always leading the score keeping those four-five points ahead as a treasure in the final. The match will then be decided by a great Giuliano Samoggia who will score the three baskets of the bracket in the last minute of the game, putting the exclamation point on the derby with a peremptory dunk near the siren.
A beautiful and hard-fought victory for our lions who concluded perhaps the most difficult week of the entire season in the best possible way. Now for coach Arioli and his boys a week of "rest" with the next match scheduled for Saturday 1 February in Turin against CUS and followed by Tuesday 4 February Basket Orzinuovi will arrive at the Palazzetto Uccio Camagna for the return of the Italian Cup.
