Demis Cavina: «Special group even off the pitch»

Derthona overcame two difficult matches well, with Viola and Scafati, and a return made complicated by the Alitalia strike from Reggio Calabria. A little more than twenty-four hours before the showdown with Moncada Agrigento, scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday 25 March) at 20.30pm at the PalaOltrePò in Voghera, Demis Cavina talks about the week that began in a troubled way. «Although I don't think it necessary to underline it, I must confirm how this group has something special outside the playing field. After the fifteen hours on the train to return from Calabria and after the day off denied by circumstances, none of the boys objected to returning to work immediately to prepare for the next, difficult, race. Indeed, the misadventure turned into a fun journey in which we will remember above all how we spent our time together." In Reggio Calabria, against an opponent in full fight for salvation, Derthona showed great character. The same one that will be used against Agrigento, the third force in the championship. «The last match, like the one against Scafati, hid great pitfalls especially from a motivational point of view, in the awareness of not having to underestimate the opponents and their ranking. The next match however, with the motivations of each of us remaining fundamental, we will face one of the most athletic, deep and technical opponents in the entire A2 series." What are the strengths of Sicilians? «In recent years Agrigento has represented a point of reference for planning and technical-tactical quality. The same technical guidance, combined with an excellent framework in terms of experience and quality, has guaranteed excellent results over the years. The same script, present again this year, is bringing Agrigento among the teams that will play the post season and I am sure that, with the improvement of the two young Americans, coach Ciani's team will be a tough opponent that those who will have to deal with they aspire to promotion." How did your training week go? «We worked on the details that did not allow us to win on Sicilian soil and on the tactical choices to counter their great athleticism and the experience of the little Italians. The next three weeks will be special due to the different game days, even if we will almost always have a regular period to space out the individual matches, so the technical programming has not changed for Agrigento either."
