Coach Fioretti: "We played until the end on a tough pitch. The incidents favored Brescia more."
The knowledge of having played to the very end at the home of the league's second-placed team, but also the bitterness of a few incidents in general that didn't go their way. This is Mario Fioretti's analysis in a press conference after Germani Brescia's 92-86 defeat, which ended Bertram Derthona Tortona's streak of four consecutive victories on the final day of the first half of the Serie A Unipol season.
"We started the first quarter with a point-for-point deficit, making a few defensive mistakes. In the second quarter, we played really well for 7-8 minutes. Frankly, we could have finished the first half with a bigger lead than the 4-point lead we had when we went into the locker room. I think this was one of the factors that turned the game against us a bit," says the Tortona coach.
"We definitely struggled offensively in the third quarter. We struggled to move the ball, and even when we did, we missed a few open shots. Then we suffered a lot from Bilan in the second half, even on a few free throws. We still got within two with just over a minute left to play, but overall, we paid for a few incidents where they made some crucial baskets, whereas we struggled to make them tonight. So, credit to our opponents. We know it's really tough to come to Brescia to win, but we tried to stay competitive throughout," concluded the Bertram coach.
