Derthona remained ahead throughout the match, rejected Trieste's attempts to come back and deservedly earned the play-off quarter-finals with Brescia. A vibrant, fought and controlled match ends 80-72 in the decisive moments. After the intense days that preceded game 5 of the play offs, Palaferraris is ready for a historic night. The Juventus curve displays the classic black banner "Hic sunt Leones" and makes itself heard by calling the entire stadium in support. The match starts and it immediately gets serious. The intensity is maximum and little is scored. Halfway through the first quarter, Tortona leads 10-5 with two bombs and a movement from Garri. Trieste immediately heals with Canavesi and Pecile. However, the match was point to point with Garri as the protagonist for the Lions with two bombs in a row (12 points in the first period). It ends 22-15 with PalaFerraris in flames and Cavina dancing in front of the bench. Parks and Nelson score the first baskets after the break, but Tortona has Marks with a very hot hand who scores five points in an amen (29-20 for Leoni). Two consecutive naive turnovers and Trieste didn't miss the chance to come back within three. However, a block from Reati who launches the transition with a three-pointer from Marks makes everyone jump to their feet 4'10'' from the long siren (34-26). Tortona drops and Parks' athleticism rises (three blocks in 20'). At halftime the gap remained: 38-33 for Derthona. We return to the parquet and Spissu steals and passes the basket, Marks scores from long range, Brooks penetrates and the score is 7-0. Trieste defends strongly and comes back, but when Parks comes out in the final minutes the Lions take advantage and close the period by maintaining the partial (59-53). The intensity doesn't drop even in the final period with the teams forced to shoot at the end of 24 seconds. Trieste gets closer (61-57) and Cavina immediately stops the trend with a timeout. The game is dirty, Nelson scores a three, but with 5' to go it's 68-62. Then comes the decisive push from the Piedmontese: Marks hits it from long range, Brooks stops it and Marks scores again from the opposite side. Trieste raises the white flag. In the final round of free throws it ends 80-72. The dream continues and the party begins.
