In the space of two days, the U19 Eccellenza group has once again secured a clean sweep against College Basketball Borgomanero : a victory, a reversal of the point difference, and Allianz Derthona's position in the standings has been taken over by their opponents, a repeat of what happened last Saturday at the home of the team from the Novara province in the Interregional Serie B.
In the big home match of the first day of the return leg of the National Group 1 of the youth championship, Allianz led by a double-digit margin for most of the half, even reaching +18 at 70-52 at the start of the final period with Conte and Tambwe leading the way. Then the visitors' surge brought Borgomanero to within 4 after a three-pointer by Trucchetti with 2' to go (75-71) and with the chance to further scare the game, a possibility that vanished with two missed three-pointers by Trucchetti and Ferrari and a driving basket by Baldi to make it 77-71 with 28" left. With 4" left, Borgomanero got within 3 thanks to a series of free throws, but Josovic again from the free throw line made it 5, giving the home team the lead, overturning the 1-point deficit from the first half.
MVP Gloris Tambwe (pictured in the archive photo) dominated the two colored areas of the PalaCamagna with aggression and double-double-worthy concreteness (21+10 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive), without even making the limited contribution of starting center Tandia, affected by a physical problem, felt. Stefano Conte was absent in the fourth quarter after scoring his 21 points until the third, and Tommaso Diodati made an excellent start to immediately steer the game in the direction of the Bianconeri Lions.
The ninth win in 12 games brings them level with their opponents in second place in the standings, along with Pallacanestro Cantù, who also have 18 points and are vying for the top three spots that will secure direct access to the National Finals in their category. This was after a twelfth matchday that saw league leaders Pall. Varese's unbeaten season streak collapse, with a defeat away to Campus Piemonte Alba.
The next round looks set to be a much easier match on paper for Luca Ansaloni 's boys , who will be expected on Monday 15 January at 20pm at the Pala Gianni Asti in Turin to face the home team Basket Torino , bottom of the tournament.
