Universiade, Italy finishes in 12th place: the words of Bruno Mascolo
ʺTaking part in the Universiade was a fantastic experience. The inaugural ceremony is an unforgettable moment: I still have shivers from having entered the full San Paolo wearing the national team shirt. During the event we did not achieve the results we would have hoped to achieve, but this remains an event that I will always carry in my heart and keep among my beautiful memories.. With his voice still emotional, the new Bertram Derthona player Bruno Mascolo wanted to talk about his feelings at the end of the basketball tournament of the XXX Summer Universiade, which Italy concluded yesterday morning with the match against the Czech Republic, a final valid for 11th and 12th place.

Mascolo then went on to describe the structure of the Olympic Village, which saw the athletes located on cruise ships, with the exception ʺbasketball and volleyball players who, being too tall to live in ship bunks, lived in hotels in Caserta and Salerno during this eventʺ.
As regards the tournament, in the second phase Italy participated in the competitions for places from 9th to 16th. In the first match the Azzurri beat China 95-83: on this occasion Bertram's point guard did not score any points. In the match against Croatia - valid as a 9th-12th place semifinal - the team coached by Andrea Paccariè was defeated 70-77: starting in the starting five, Mascolo finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. In the match played on Thursday 11 July, which closed the Azzurri's tournament, the Czech Republic prevailed 67-89: Italy thus closed the Universiade in 12th place. The new Juventus player only took to the pitch for a few minutes and finished the match without any points on the scoresheet.
