tavern keepers Derthona Basket is happy to announce that it has reached an agreement with Jonathan Tavernari for the 2014/2015 season. Jonathan has signed a one-year contract.

Jonathan was born in São Bernardo do Campo on 18 June 1987 and holds Italian citizenship. After spending the first years of his life in Brazil where he began playing basketball at the age of 6, in 2005 he moved to the USA and began his career at Gorman High School in Nevada: with an average of 23.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game (top in Nevada), led the Gaels to a record of 25 wins and 2 losses, reaching the state Final Four. He was recruited in 2006 by Brigham Young University and as a freshman for the Cougars was named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year averaging 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. His collegiate career at BYU ends as the winningest player in school history.
After graduation Tavernari signed a 3-year contract with Pallacanestro Biella. During his first season, 2010-2011, he did not play due to bureaucratic problems but at the end of the season, Jonathan gains Italian citizenship.
In the 2011-2012 season, Tavernari started again with Biella, playing well in the preseason matches, and made a couple of appearances in Serie A before moving on loan to Pistoia in Legadue where he finished with a regular season average of 9,8, 40 points per game, with 40,3% from two, with 75% from three, with 3,6% from free throws and an average rebounds per game of 11,5. In the matches played in the playoffs lost in the final against Brindisi he averaged 57,1 points, with 38,6% from two, 70% from three, 4,3% from free throws and an average rebounding per game of XNUMX.
In July 2012, Tavernari moved to Scafati also in Legadue where he closed the season with an average of 7.7 points with 48,7% from two, 43,8% from three and 3,3 rebounds.
In June 2013 he returned to his homeland to play for Esporte Clube Pinheiros, the club where he grew up. Now the new Italian adventure to play with Derthona Basket.
Tavernari was also a member of the Brazilian national basketball team. He made his debut for the team in the 2008 Olympic qualifiers and won the 2009 American championships and the 2010 South American games.
