U17 Excellence, debut in the 8/2022 championship on Saturday 23 October
The Bertram Yachts Derthona U17 Eccellenza team will make its debut in the 2022/23 championship on Saturday 8 October . The team coached by Enrico Rocco will make its debut on matchday two, on the home court of the PalaCamagna in Tortona against Novara Basket (tip-off at 18:30 pm ). The team will be immediately bye in the first round due to the uneven composition of 9 teams in Group B, one of the two groups with the Italian-style round-robin format into which the 18 teams in the Liguria-Piedmont area tournament are divided.
Junior Libertas Casale Monferrato, College Basketball Borgomanero, Basket College Novara, Pallacanestro Vado, My Basket Genova, Biella Next, and JB Monferrato, in addition to the aforementioned Novara Basket, will be the opponents of the Derthona Basketball Lab Lions . Cus Torino, Don Bosco Crocetta Torino, Basket Pegli, BEA Chieri, TNA San Mauro, Collegno Basket, 5 Pari Torino, Blu Sea Basket Lavagna, and Pall. Moncalieri are the nine teams that will battle in the other Group, Group A.
The Bianconeri—pictured here after their 83-74 home friendly win over Don Bosco Crocetta this weekend—will face sixteen regular-season games through the weekend of February 10-11, 2023, as they attempt to qualify for the second regional phase and secure one of the five spots up for grabs for the interregional phase of the tournament. Last year, the tournament concluded with a historic qualification to the National Final in Mantua, following the Piedmont and Liguria championship title won by the quintet led by the then Juventus youth sector coach, Luca Ansaloni. The formula for determining the "magnificent" five who will advance to the interzone will be determined at a later date.
The interregional phase will begin on March 11th and conclude on May 21st and will be organized into groups of 6 teams with home and away matches, with the prize being qualification for the National Final (location yet to be determined), to which 16 teams will be admitted to compete for the title of Italian Champion.
HERE is the official press release from FIP Piemonte, with the participants and schedule for the regional phase and the format of the interregional groups.
