Second consecutive championship success for Autosped BCC Derthona who, without Fontaine, made the decisive break between the third and final fractions, digging the decisive gap to get the better of Battipaglia. At the end of a balanced match for long stretches, the defensive growth and ballistic precision in the third fraction made the difference in favor of the team coached by Cutugno.
First quarter with low scores at the Cittadella dello Sport: BCC, after a good start, chases Battipaglia in the score until the final stages of the quarter. With a 5-0 signed by Leonardi, the team coached by Cutugno ties the match at 13 at 10'. In the second period the match flows with the same leitmotiv, where absolute balance reigns on the field: Battipaglia closes ahead 29-31 at half-time.
Upon returning from the locker rooms, after the opening basket of the guests, Autosped scores an 11-0 that is worth the overtaking (40-34) forcing coach Serventi to stop the game. Thanks to excellent percentages from beyond the arc in the period (5/7) and a good defensive presence, BCC scores the break and extends to 52-41 at the third siren. The start of the last quarter is still home-made, but after the +17 (58-41) achieved, Autosped suffers a 0-12 that reduces the distances but the margin accumulated previously allows them to conquer the success for 58-53.
The words of Francesca Leonardi: “We are coming off a good performance against Venezia in the Coppa Italia and we worked on ourselves and Battipaglia during the week. We had ups and downs during the match, but then we improved in defense and we got the victory”.
Coach's comment Orazio Cutugno: “We played a solid game, with good defensive attention when we increased the intensity on the ball carriers, finding rhythm and good shots in attack. We need to improve the management of final possessions and counterattacks, but we are satisfied with the girls' desire to share the ball”.
