Sixth place for the Aquilotti at the 1st National Mask@ball Tournament

Important appointment over the past weekend for the Aquilotti team of Derthona Basket, which was involved in the 1st National Mask@ball Tournament organized by PMS Basket. For the young Lions it was a significant opportunity to compete against some of the most organized teams in the category and a useful moment to strengthen the group on and off the pitch.

Inserted in Group A of the tournament, the young Leoncini challenged the hosts PMS in the opening match of their event, playing on par for all six mini halves and only surrendering 14-10 at the end. In the second match of the tournament the Bianconeri got the better of Auxilium School Project 16-8, in a match which highlighted continuous progress in team play.

Having finished the first phase in second place in their group, the Aquilotti team faced the subsequent races, aimed at defining the placings from 5th to 8th place. In the semi-final played against Basket Druento – L'isola che c'è, Derthona won 14-10, guaranteeing access to the match valid for the final 5th place. Basket Pegli prevailed in this match, winning 14-10 at the end of a balanced match for its entire duration.

During the two days of the tournament the young Leoncini grew a lot both on the pitch, where they showed great pleasure in playing together, and off the pitch, further strengthening the group and having fun on every occasion. Furthermore, the victory of the Fair Play Award of the tournament, reserved for the team that proved to be the most polite on the parquet and also off the pitch (kids and their parents) during the Mask@ball.

The final act, the awards ceremony, of the event took place at the PalaGianniAsti in Turin at the end of the match between Reale Mutua Torino and Novipiù Casale Monferrato - valid for the twenty-fifth day of the West Group of the Serie A2 Old Wild West championship - at which the young Lions and all the other participating teams witnessed sitting in the stands of the sports hall.

It was an experience to remember for the boys, which must act as a stimulus to continue progressing between now and the end of the season. Below is the list of participants in the Tournament played on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd February:

Alberto Cadamosti, Andrea Cadamosti, Alessio Poggi, Andrea Musso, Massimiliano Zavattin, Eros Marcantonio, Davide Baldini, Federico Bruno, Lorenzo Ferrera, Manuel Raggi, Alberto Cucchi, Filippo Mirabelli.

Coach: Andrea Fanaletti Assistant: Alessio Gaudio

ʺThe Mask@ball tournament was a great experience for our Eaglets (born in 2010) – begins Alessio Gaudio, minibasket manager at Bertram Yachts Derthona – to which we have added some Squirrels (born in 2011). For many of them it was the first experience away from home, but there were no problems in the management of the group by me and coach Fanaletti: for this we want to congratulate the parents. On a technical level, we were curious to see the young Leoncini at work against top-level teams and we were very happy with what we saw on the pitch, as the boys played on par with all their opponents and grew from match to match . I would like to underline the achievement of the Fair Play award with which we were recognized for our education on and off the pitch: I believe that this should be a great source of pride for both the staff and the club. Finally, I want to thank all the families and PMS Basket for making this wonderful experience possibleʺ.
