Positive indications for Bertram Derthona in the first scrimmage of the season against Unahotels Reggio Emilia. Without Cannon, who arrived yesterday in Tortona and is carrying out the tests necessary to obtain post-Covid-19 sporting eligibility, Wright, kept at rest due to a sprained right ankle suffered yesterday in training, and Sanders, still in the USA due to bureaucratic issues, the Lions played with intensity against a top-level opponent.
Filloy, Mascolo, Macura, Daum, Cain the first starting five of the season chosen by coach Ramondino: in the opening half, finished ahead 16-23, the Lions showed good offensive schemes and attention in defence. Reggio reacted in the second quarter, but Derthona was able to stay in touch and ended the first half trailing 47-42. Great intensity on the pitch also in the third period, in which the Bianconeri built good shots and closed the gap (65-61). In the final quarter Unahotels showed greater freshness, expanding their margin to the final 84-70.
ʺThe team had a great attitude on the pitch – the comment of coach Marco Ramondino – which was what we asked for. Today it was nice to have that verified. From a technical point of view we hoped to do some things better, while for others, such as defence, we are further ahead than we expected, thanks to the players' application. This scrimmage was important because Reggio is an organized and physical team, which plays hard and has many solutions. For us it is a decisive impact with the new reality that we will face and, at the same time, a good starting point for the work that awaits usʺ.
Derthona will take to the field again on Wednesday 1st September at 18.30pm on the Openjobmetis Varese pitch.
