“Planning and ambition, organization and passion”: this is how Luciano Nunzi, the new technical manager of the young Bianconeri, introduces himself

Over thirty years of high level basketball, various promotions and an important feeling with young people: Luciano Nunzi, fresh from his experience as head coach of the first team of Eurobasket Roma (Serie A2 Old Wild West, West Group), is the new Technical manager of the Juventus youth sector.

ʺThe agreement reached with Luciano Nunzi – the comment of Andrea Ablatico, President of the Derthona Basketball Lab – it is significant of how, in the face of difficulties, the Derthona Basket always tends to take one step forward rather than one step back. Luciano's career is there for all to see, it's not up to me to present him as a coach. It is a profile never seen before in Tortona in the role and I am sure, having seen him work in these few days, that the path marked by his predecessors will certainly be followed and expanded as a tradition of these last years of our societyʺ.

CAREER – Born in 1965, born in the Marche region, Nunzi took the first steps of his coaching career by leading the youth teams of Petriana Roma and Fortitudo 1908 Roma, teams with which he qualified several times for the National Finals. From 1999 to 2001, in addition to being a youth sector coach, he was also assistant to the first team of Fortitudo 1908 Roma which played in the Serie C1 championship. He became head coach of the Capitoline club in 2001/02. In those years - between the youth sector and the first team - Luciano, thanks to the work and foresight of the club, trains players who will have a high-level senior career: among others, Andrea Malamov, Riccardo Santolamazza, Manuel Del Brocco and Angelo Gigli, which will take flight from Rome towards the highest national and international stages.

In subsequent years he was head coach, first of Tiber and then of Luiss Roma (both in Serie B2); he subsequently moved to Anagni, where he remained from 2007 to 2012. With the Lazio team he won two promotions, from DNC to DNB in 2007/08 and from DNB to DNA in 2009/10. After completing this professional experience, from 2012 to 2018 he was coach of NPC Rieti, a team with which he obtained promotion to Serie A2 in 2015 and where he also remained in the following seasons.

The last stage of his journey is at Eurobasket Roma, a team where he takes on the role of head coach of the first team playing in the West Group of the Serie A2 Old Wild West championship.

Nunzi is a highly experienced coach who has worked for a long time in the National Youth Teams Sector, sharing part of this path with Marco Ramondino, head coach of the Juventus Serie A2. Among others, he was assistant coach of the Under 18 national team, led by Andrea Capobianco, from 2014 to 2018, the year in which he was part of the Azzurra expedition capable of winning bronze at the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Mannheim, considered a category World Cup .

In recent years he has been a speaker at more than 20 CNA clinics and was a CNA trainer - from 2013 to 2016 - for the Azzurri Federal Technical Centers of Lazio project.

During his career he received the “Retina d'Oro” Award in 2002 (best coach of Lazio), the “Tonino Costanzo” Award in 2015 (best coach of Lazio) and the Bronze Palm for technical merit in 2016.

National coach since 2004, he boasts a degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences obtained in 1991 and a Master's degree, obtained in 2006, in Educational Relations and Communication in Basketball. Now he comes to Bertram Yachts Derthona to start a new chapter in his work.

ʺI thank the club for thinking of me for this role: in Tortona I see planning and ambition, organization and passion – the first words of Luciano Nunzi, new technical manager of the youth sector of Bertram Yachts Derthona – decisive aspects, when savored, to make a choice. Having played against Derthona in Serie A2 made me feel a feeling of continuous growth and the Club's desire to emerge. All these are characteristics that represent a driving force in the youth sector. Having the opportunity to work with Marco Ramondino, with whom I shared the Eurobasket Under 18 experience in Turkey in 2014, is important: our friendship has solidified over the years when we met as opponents. His vision of basketball made my choice easier. I am a coach who believes a lot in the sequentiality between the youth sector and the first team: the thought must not be overlooked that, in both cases, we are talking about basketball. We need to work with young people to bring out the maximum potential. Sharing the project with the staff is the basis for the training of the kids, whose technical path must develop hand in hand with the human one. I will try to get to know the other coaches better and better, to speak the same technical language in order to interact from the first team to all the youth sector groups. The personal approach to the role will be slightly different, as turning to professionals requires different attention than what will be done with childrenʺ.
