Press release from the Club
Regarding the statements published on December 18.12 by the Trapani Shark Club, the companies Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna, Pallacanestro Brescia, Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano, Aquila Basket Trento 2013, Pallacanestro Trieste 2004, Pallacanestro Reggiana, Reyer Venezia, Derthona Basket, Polisportiva Dinamo, Universo Treviso Basket, Pallacanestro Varese, Guerino Vanoli Basket, NapoliBasket, Amici Pallacanestro Udinese, and Pallacanestro Cantù intend to clearly and unequivocally distance themselves from the accusations leveled against LBA President Maurizio Gherardini, who is leading our Association with commitment, professionalism, dedication, and above all with absolute respect and equidistance between the parties in the sole interest of the Italian basketball movement.
The election, by a large majority, of a figure with Gherardini's international experience and history represents a sign of solidarity and unity for LBA at a crucial moment for the future of Italian basketball, and beyond. This is why the President and his team are vigorously and enthusiastically supported by the aforementioned clubs.
We therefore hope that incidents that do not reflect the LBA's associative spirit and mission in its daily pursuit of proposals and initiatives aimed at the development and growth of professional basketball in our country will not be repeated.
We also believe that allusions to a possible suspension of the Serie A championship for reasons related to vested interests are inappropriate: we want to remember that the top flight represents millions of fans who identify with the values and commitment of the clubs. These clubs, in full compliance with the rules, ensure the smooth running of competitive activities by competing solely on the field with respect and fairness.
