Next Gen Cup: from Thursday in Rovereto it's a big hunt for the Final Eight for the U19 Eccellenza
The second and final stage of the qualifying phase of the championship is rapidly approaching Next Gen Cup is preferably used for Bertram Yachts Derthona Tortona. Wednesday the departure of the youth expedition in the direction Rovereto e from Thursday 23 February off to the four days of racing until Sunday 26th in the city of the Trentino province.
Al PalaMarchetti the Juventus team will be in pole position for qualifying for the Final Eight of the event organized by Legabasket and reserved for training Under 19 of the sixteen clubs of Serie A. The privilege was acquired thanks to the precious haul of three victories out of three accumulated in the first stage in Pesaro last November, where the boys coached by Luca Ansaloni - still fighting for a place in the National Under 19 Eccellenza Final and inside the playoff zone in the senior championship of the Piedmontese Serie C Gold – they lined up Happy Casa Brindisi, Banco di Sardegna Sassari and UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia to take first place in the Group A in the company of alone Carpegna Prosciutto Papalini Pesaro. A duo that, together with Dolomiti Energia Trentino, hosts in the stage scheduled at the same time as Trento, represents the only teams still undefeated in the event.
The streak obtained in the Marche region could allow captain Zonca and his teammates, strengthened for the occasion by the only loan of Giacomo Zanetti from Vanoli Cremona, to make even a single victory in Rovereto enough to secure a place among the top four of the group and tear the pass for the Final Eight scheduled on PalaBarbuto of Naples from 10 to 12 April. But the young team from Tortona will hunt for as many victories as possible to earn a more favorable seeding in the final Neapolitan event, organized in direct elimination matches with quarter-finals, semi-finals and final to decide the winner of the 2022/23 edition .
Trentino will make its debut immediately with the top clash on Thursday morning (11 am) with the co-leaders Pesaro, followed the next day (17 pm) by the challenge with the Pall. Trieste, third force in the group together with Nutribullet Treviso, with whom he will duel on Saturday (13 pm), before the match of the final day (30 pm) scheduled against Varese Academy, one of the four teams on the entire list still stuck in terms of successes. All matches will be broadcast live on the official Legabasket website, www.legabasket.it
All BLM Group Arena di Trento instead they will be on stage Germani Brescia (fresh from victory in the Final Eight of the "grown-ups" Italian Cup), Umana Reyer Venice, Virtus Emil Banca Bologna, Givova Scafati, Tezenis Verona, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan e GeVi Naples, in addition to the aforementioned landlady Dolomites Energy Trentino.
STATEMENTS
Luca Ansaloni"It's true that we played well in the first three matches, but we will all play the four most difficult matches of our qualifying phase in Rovereto. For the moment everything went as it should go, but the difficult part comes now. The approach to the second stage seems to me to be going in the right way, beyond some not positive results in the last period both in C Gold and in U19 Eccellenza we are all healthy. We should have recovered Ansevini, who was very unlucky with injuries this season, and we will also have Zanetti who is the loan player we wanted to bring for this stage. The target – continues the coach and technical manager of the Derthona Basket youth sector – is obviously to qualify for the Final Eight, we will try to earn it as soon as possible, therefore starting from the match against Pesaro, even if it is far from easy".
Claudio Coffano, president of the Derthona Basketball Lab: “It will be a very delicate four days for us. As usual, we ask the boys for maximum commitment, also for their satisfaction, in order to reach the finish line of the Finals in Naples and thus continue to demonstrate the value of all these months. We come from the last few unhappy matches in C Gold and U19 Eccellenza, we hope that the atmosphere of the Next Gen will give us back the shine and intensity that it gave us in Pesaro. The eventual entry to the Final Eight would make us proud of what Doctor Gavio's ownership allows us to do with the youth teams. But also towards the rest of the Derthona Basket world led by the president Marco Picchi and the managing director Ferencz Bartocci: it would be a great satisfaction for them too".
