Matteo Martini: ʺI want to entertain the fans. Choosing Tortona was simple
"My parents have always been an important role model for me, not only in sports but also in all other aspects of life. The family supported me in my decisions and advised me when we had different opinions ." This is how Matteo Martini's first interview for Bertram Derthona begins, with a reference to his family and a nod to his father, a basketball coach at Libertas Livorno, a team playing in the C Gold Toscana league.
After playing for a few years in Serie C and B, Matteo joined Legnano in Serie A2 in the 2015/16 season. He stayed in Lombardy for three consecutive seasons, contributing to the team's brilliant results and playing several times against Tortona, "without ever managing to win despite the games always being very hard-fought ." Among the matches he played against the Bianconeri, Matteo remembers one in particular: the one played at the PalaOltrepò in March 2018, a few days after the Leoni's success in the Serie A2 Italian Cup. "On that occasion, the arena was packed and the atmosphere was great. I always had a feeling of excitement and closeness from the fans to the team, and that's a very appealing image ."
A successful three-year stint with the Knights (83 games played) opened the doors for the player to Serie A, where he played with Pistoia in the 2018/19 season. "It was an experience I faced with the awareness of having to get back into the game, very beautiful and formative ," says Martini, " for the opportunity to compete with high-level players. All of this left me with the challenge of maintaining a certain type of athleticism and presence that are fundamental and can always be useful on a basketball court . "
After finishing last year in Latina, Matteo decided to start a new adventure in Tortona. The decision to move to Piedmont " was quite easy because I was aware of the ambitious project underway and the company's way of working. When the call arrived, I didn't think about it for long ."
In this new experience, the new Bertram player expects to "work and entertain and give satisfaction to those who come to see us, to the club and to all the people who follow us".
Besides being a basketball player, Martini has had a great passion for travel since he was a boy, because " I always traveled a lot with my parents ." Among the adventures that Matteo remembers with particular fondness are "a coast-to-coast trip in California and one to Cuba. I've also been to the eastern part of the United States. All the routes I've chosen to take have left me with something; now, after two years of not traveling much, I'm in the process of planning a new itinerary ."
