Marco Spissu among the Lions!

Derthona Basket announces that it has acquired the sporting services of Marco Spissu for the 2015/2016 season.

Marco, currently involved with the national under 20 team at the European Championships taking place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, is a 184cm playmaker and was born in Sassari in 1995.

He is a product of the Dinamo Sassari academy, the team with which he made his debut in Serie A at just 16 years old. He played at Casalpusterlengo where, in addition to having a playing time of around 12 minutes per game, he won the national under 19 title and was MVP of the event. Last season he always started at Casalpusterlengo and then moved to Viola Reggio Calabria where he finished with 5.7 points in around 17 minutes of use.

President Tava confirms that with the purchase of Marco the roster for the next championship is substantially defined. “The choice fell on a talented young man (so much so that we can admire him on TV these days) in a role, that of playmaker, of fundamental importance. The choice goes in the direction of an overall rejuvenation of the squad available to coach Cavina, necessary for a more physical and athletic championship than the past one. It's definitely a gamble but we believe there are all the conditions to win it."

Marco Picchi says there were several possible avenues for the point guard role alongside Simoncelli. “We chose the most intriguing path by choosing a boy from 1995 with all the risks that this may entail. We are convinced that the benefits of having a talented, brilliant and growing boy are greater given that, despite being only 20 years old, he has already been playing with great maturity for some time. We have therefore, also in this case, confirmed the choice to opt for the green line despite perhaps a little experience. We are convinced that we have made the right choice, certain that for Marco it will be the year of definitive consecration "

Coach Cavina, on the other hand, has known Spissu since his time in Sassari and tells us: "When he was very young, he didn't miss any first team training sessions, challenging the Americans to the 3-point shooting competition. I have always been impressed by this little boy who was always present on the sidelines as a mop-boy on Sundays, the easiest way to stay close to a professional world which was his real goal since he was a child. I personally know the player with the characteristics of a true playmaker, he already has great international experience at youth level. I expect that for him it will be a fundamental stage for his growth and an opportunity to improve further."

Welcome to Marco from everyone at Derthona Basket!!!
