The U19 Excellence at the Next Gen Cup: Serie A emotions in Pesaro
A last week that made history and the finale of that current one that brings a prestigious appointment. They have been and will be intense days for youth of Bertram Yachts Derthona Basket. Started last Friday with the first, historic success of Derthona Basketball Lab of president Claudio Coffano and executive vice president Andrea Ablatico in the top Piedmontese senior championship, the next few days will see that same group of players - fresh from the joy of Serie C Gold - face the Next Gen Cup 2022/23, the tournament organized by Legabasket and reserved for teams Under 19 Excellence of the sixteen clubs of Serie A.
It will be the second time that a Juventus team will play the event and will do so just 6 months later and on the same pitch as the first, namely the Vitrifrigo Arena di Pesaro, Where from Saturday 12th to Monday 14th November the team coached by the technical manager of the youth sector Luca Ansaloni – strengthened by the only loan of Ousmane Maiga from Roseto Basket 20.20 – will face three challenges in as many days for the Group A in which it is inserted, trying to repeat the good performances of last May, when it narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Final Four.
Preceded on Friday evening by the presence of the entire Tortona delegation in the Vitrifrigo stands at the match valid for the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers between Italy and the fresh European champions Spain, the event for the young Bianconeri will start on Saturday at 14 pm with the challenge to Happy Casa Brindisi in the secondary gym of the Marche sports hall, repeated on Sunday at 15 pm by the match against the Bank of Sardinia Sassari again in the North Gym and followed on Monday at 13pm in the main arena by the one with the UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia which will conclude the first stage, which will be followed by a second at the end of February - just made official Trento and Rovereto as venues - in which the Bianconeri will face the other teams in their group, Prosciutto di Carpegna Pesaro, Nutribullet Treviso, Pallacanestro Trieste and Varese Basketball. All to try to access the Final Phase to which the top 4 of the two groups qualify, with the other group made up of Dolomiti Energia Trentino, EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, Germani Brescia, Gevi Napoli, Scafati Basket, Tezenis Verona, Umana Reyer Venezia and Virtus Segafrego Bologna.
STATEMENTS
The President Claudio Coffano: “First of all, it is pleasant to return to Pesaro, last year brought good benefits both to us and above all to the First Team by reaching the Serie A Italian Cup Final. This year the Next Gen is more demanding, there are more stages, not it's more of a single event, so we have more competitions ahead of us. We go with the belief that we can do well, then, as we always say, the result is never a given nor the most important thing. The important thing is that the boys once again take the opportunity to express themselves at the highest levels to defend the colors of Derthona. Then what is to come will come.".
The coach Luca Ansaloni"Over the course of these months we have tried to set up a team with more competitive guys, some of them are of interest, I won't say nationally but almost and we are pleased to have them with us and be able to field them. The single loan, and no longer three like last year, allows us to give more space to our boys and is a great incentive for me and them. What do I expect as results from the first stage? This year's formula, divided into two phases, is nice because there will be more matches, it's a double experience, so this in itself is very interesting. In terms of difficulty, first-tier teams like Reggio Emilia that we will face in the last match in Pesaro are already well structured, others on paper may be a little less so. And with the single loan the values will alter less than the teams usually seen in the league. Although there will still be variations, I was a direct witness a couple of years ago of teams that had taken out only one loan and scored 40 points per match... So any formation will have to be taken with extreme caution and playing well straight away. I decided".
The captain Carlo Zonca: “It will be a very demanding three days, but we are also ready on a physical level. We know what awaits us, i.e. high-value opponents, but we know we are at this level and therefore can aspire to victories. After two defeats in a row in the championship there will be a need for a head reaction from the whole team, therefore always being present during the 40' especially in defence, which is a point on which we have to work because we know we are a little less physical compared to others, but if we give our best by communicating we will be able to do something good".
