Coach Cavina's first words
In the late afternoon of Monday 7th Derthona basketball held the presentation conference open to the public of the new coach Demis Cavina who thus tested the passion that can be felt in Tortona for the black and white colours. In the Sala Romita of the Municipality packed in every row of seats, after the intervention of sporting director Picchi who rightly thanked coach Antonello Arioli for what he has done in recent years, the new coach from Bologna, who will be linked to the team with a one-year contract, he illustrated in broad terms the hard work to be undertaken for this new adventure in Serie A2 Silver and, answering journalists' questions, he mentioned how the roster for the next championship could be composed. “After seeing Derthona in Cervia in this year's Final Four I understood that Derthona could be the right team for me and Tortona, very similar to the country where I come from, the right environmental situation to reconcile with basketball and do well – these are the first words of the coach who continues – here I found considerable enthusiasm and a truly solid base on which to build, all the professionals and some mutual friends spoke to me about Derthona as a serious and ambitious club and therefore I chose Tortona to retrace the successes achieved in recent years.” Having been teased about the transfer market, the coach then explains: “From today I will start talks with all the players on the roster to understand each one's intentions but we must realize that there may be changes in all roles. The real difference, the major step that must be overcome when moving up the category, is the athleticism and speed of the technical act, the speed of the play and the physical strength of the opponents; It would be nice to be able to keep intact a team that has proven to have a huge heart and to be a great, strong and cohesive group, but we won't be able to avoid making changes. Our backbone should however remain unchanged and the roles where we will intervene the most will be the external ones. We will have to improve the athletic quality in every position. The transfer decisions will be made in a collegial manner with the club and most importantly of all, we want to bring to Tortona players who are men first and not basketball players, who have the humility to make themselves available to the team and know how to recreate that harmony and that the units that have characterized it in recent seasons; I repeat, we want men before players and that's what we will look at first in the search for the Americans." What game can we expect from the new Derthona? “A good defense certainly, for the attacking game it is too early to talk about it, first we have to see who the players will be available and their characteristics. We will make a market of men for a vigorous season”!
