Bertram Derthona's journey in the Frecciarossa Final Eight 2023 ends in the semi-finals: faced with a great Virtus, which leads in scoring from the very first minutes, the team coached by coach Ramondino never manages to get back under the double-digit gap. Bologna progressively widens its gap and reaches the final.
Virtus made a scorching start, driven by the play of Teodosic and Weems: after 3 minutes of the match Bologna led 11-2. After a few balanced minutes, Belinelli opened a maxi run of 16-0 closed by Severini's triple: in the 10th minute the score was 29-12. In the second period Derthona tries to close the gap, but Bologna continues to have great intensity on both sides of the pitch and rejects any attempt at a comeback: at half-time Virtus leads 52-33.
A gust from Harper tries to bring Bertram closer in the score, but Virtus continues to produce high quality basketball, maintaining the margin accumulated in the first half: in the 30th minute the score is 73-51. In the last quarter the rotations of the two teams widen, with the distances remaining unchanged: Derthona comes out defeated 90-65.
Thus coach Marco Ramondino at the end of the race: “Congratulations to Virtus for the victory, for the way they played and obtained the result: they took the field with great determination and on a tactical level they were good at exploring and playing on advantages. We didn't have adequate physicality to compete at this level, even the offensive pace was very slow thanks to our opponents who slowed down and disrupted the entrance to the games. We made some mistakes that Virtus were good at punishing, even if the health conditions we were in today didn't allow us to try to change the momentum of the match.".
