Joseph Mobio is a new Leo

Joseph Mobio is a new Leo

Derthona Basket announces that it has reached an agreement with the athlete Joseph Yantchoue Mobio, returning from his season with the APU Old Wild West Udine shirt.

CAREER – Of Ivorian origins, born in Tivoli (RM) on 26 May 1998, Mobio grew up in the youth sector of Leonessa Brescia, with whom he made his debut in Serie A2 in the 2015/16 season which ended with promotion to Serie A at the end of the final won 3-2 against Fortitudo Bologna.

He subsequently moved to Stella Azzurra Roma, where he played in both the Under 20 championship and Serie B, before accepting the offer of Sicoma Val di Ceppo Perugia in the summer of 2017. With the shirt of the Umbrian team, in Serie B, he produced 10.7 points on average with an excellent 55% from two points (on 6.7 shots per game): numbers that earned him a call from Orlandina Basket, in Serie A2.

Mobio remained in Sicily for the following two years: in 2018/19 the team coached by Marco Sodini was the protagonist of a great ride that only ended with defeat against Treviso in the playoff final. In 2019/20 Joseph becomes a starter for Orlandina, playing over 28 minutes on average in the league and totaling 8.5 points and 4 rebounds per outing.

After an excellent year on a personal level, the call comes from APU Old Wild West Udine, an ambitious club from the Girone Verde. Mobio becomes a permanent member of coach Boniciolli's rotations, making an important contribution in terms of energy, athleticism and intensity. Udine reaches the A2 Italian Cup final and the Gold Board playoff final: on both occasions the Bianconeri are defeated by GeVi Napoli.

Now he arrives in Tortona to start a new chapter in his career.

ʺI thank the club for the trust and opportunity it has given me. It will be my first experience in Serie A – Joseph Mobio's first words in black and white – but I believe that both the team and the Club are ready to face this challenge. I'm sure that with the right attitude we will be able to make ourselves respected in Serie A.

“I remember the first time I met Joseph and his family in the training hall of the youth sector in Brescia – says our GM Ferencz Bartocci, at the time on the Leonessa desk – and from there his first involvement in the first team's training sessions with coach Andrea Diana. Today, finding him back in Serie A is truly a great feeling.".
