The International Baskin Tournament kicks off in Tortona. Opening ceremony yesterday, the first games of the event sponsored by Derthona Basket and Associaz. Baskin today
The opening ceremony of the international Baskin EuroHoop 18ALL 4 tournament, which started today in Tortona, took place in the late afternoon of Wednesday, September 2.0. The sporting event organized by Derthona Basket, in collaboration with the Baskin Association, opened with a parade of the participating teams in Piazza Duomo, in the presence of local authorities and numerous fans.
The mayor of Tortona, Federico Chiodi, gave a welcome speech and underlined the importance of an inclusive sports event like this for Tortona. The participating teams, coming from different European countries, were introduced to the public and showed great enthusiasm and determination. Also speaking were the prefect of Alessandria, Dr. Alessandra Vinciguerra, who underlined the importance of baskin as a form of inclusion, and the Bishop of Tortona, Monsignor Guido Marini, who sent an important message of peace and of how sport can be a vehicle to bring people and cultures closer together. Regional councilor Enrico Bussalino brought the greeting message of the Piedmont Region, proud to host an event of such magnitude and social relevance on its territory.
The President of Derthona Basket Marco Picchi, greeting the teams present, underlined how this is just an appetizer of what could be when the Cittadella dello Sport is finished with the opening of the main sports facility. The speeches of the authorities were interspersed with performances by the Cheerleaders of Derthona Basket and DaMove.
The evening's presenters, Sonia Bedeschi and Lorenzo Pinciroli, called the Bertram players, Tommaso Baldasso, Tommy Kuhse, Justin Gorham and Andra Zerini, to sit next to them to draw the groups for the tournament that will end on Saturday 21st with the finals in the Facility of the Cittadella dello Sport.
Before the ceremony, the conference “The new frontiers of integrated and inclusive sport” was held in the Sala Romita of the Town Hall, with the participation of the CEO of Derthona Basket, Ferencz Bartocci, the director of the School of Sport of Sport and Health, Rossana Ciuffetti, the president of the Baskin Association, Antonio Bodini, the lawyer and professor of Policies and integrity of Sport of the European Union at the University of Padua, Jacopo Tognon, the consultant in Training Processes and Project Design, Alexy Valet, and Matteo Soragna, former player of the Italian National Basketball Team and currently player and testimonial of Baskin. It was a conference with an excellent turnout of public in which they talked about baskin and its importance as a form of inclusion and fun.
The sporting event will take place at the PalaCamagna on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th September and at the Facility of the Cittadella dello Sport on Saturday 21st, with all matches open to the public. Derthona Basket thanks all those who made the organization of the event possible and invites all citizens to participate in large numbers in the matches and to support the teams with warm support.
