Derthona scores the goal: Lorenzo D'Ercole is a new Lion

Derthona Basket announces that it has reached an agreement with Lorenzo D'Ercole, a guard born in '88 who started the season with the Reyer Venezia tank top.

CAREER – Born in Pistoia on 11 February 1988, he grew up in the youth sector of Montecatini, with whom he also made his debut in Legadue. In 2005 D'Ercole was hired by Mens Sana Siena, one of the best teams on the national basketball scene. In 2006/07 he was part of the roster that won the Scudetto, also making his debut at international level by playing four Uleb Cup (current EuroCup) matches.

The following year he moved to Livorno, in Legadue, contributing to the salvation obtained by the Labronici, before returning to Serie A with Snaidero Udine. In 2009/10 he once again wore the Siena jersey with which he won the treble on national soil (Scudetto, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana), also making his debut in the EuroLeague.

In the following two years Lorenzo played with Vanoli Cremona, before an important three-year period with Virtus Roma: in his first year in the capital he reached the Scudetto final, losing 4-1 against Mens Sana Siena, while in the following seasons he reached a Scudetto semi-final and becomes team captain.

From 2015 to 2017 he was part of the Sassari roster, while in the following two years he took the field with the Avellino vest, reaching the FIBA Europe Cup final lost against Reyer Venezia. In 2018/19 he returned home to Pistoia, before signing - in the summer of 2020 - a contract with Umana Reyer Venezia.

In the national team he played the entire youth team (U16, U18 and U20) winning the bronze at the 20 Under 2007 EuroBasket held in Italy and Slovenia, thanks to the success in the 3rd-4th place final against Russia, in which he scored 9 points. In that team he played together with Luigi Datome, Daniel Hackett and Pietro Aradori, among others. D'Ercole also wears the senior national team jersey, with which he also played two All-Star Games.

Now he arrives at Bertram Yachts Derthona to start a new chapter in his career, in which he will wear the number 9 vest.

Thus Marco Picchi, CEO of Bertram Yachts Derthona: ʺThe results that these guys are achieving are there for all to see. For this reason we have carefully and carefully considered the idea of looking at the market. We were looking for a player with experience and talent, but above all who reflected the criteria and values with which the team was built in the summer. Lorenzo D'Ercole best represents the identikit of the added value to which we looked with even greater conviction in the coming months which will be a real tour de force. He is a top-level player who we are happy to add.

ʺThe profile of Lorenzo D'Ercole– says Marco Ramondino, head coach of Bertram Yachts Derthona – it responds to many characteristics and requirements that were very important to us when we found ourselves considering the inclusion of a player. This is a boy whose reputation as a locker room man is very high, an expert athlete who, in recent years, has competed in highly competitive contexts at Serie A level and who has shown that he knows how to give his contribution both when he has several minutes and responsibility both when it was used more as a specialist. Beyond these aspects, it was important for us to include a player who had these characteristics between now and the end of the season to not only maintain but strengthen our team identity, which we believe to be the strong point of this year.ʺ.

These are Lorenzo D'Ercole's first words in black and white: ʺI am very excited for this new adventure, I accepted the proposal with enthusiasm and desire to do because Derthona has one of the most important projects in Italy, regardless of the category. I can't wait to get started and try to help the team achieve their goals. I would also like to thank Venezia for the availability shown in this negotiation, as proof of the seriousness of the Club.
