Derthona signs Jordan Losi. Interview with Marco Picchi

“Derthona is in crisis. The Juventus club (1 win and 5 defeats) is looking for a solution in the market by hiring the guard Jordan Losi, 34 years old, from Bologna, with a long career that began in Fortitudo and then moved, among others, to Castelfiorentino, Turin, Ferentino, up to Mantua with which he won the last Silver. Shooter, player with personality and charisma, Losi is represented by Riccardo Sbezzi's 3Men management agency. The new signing trained today with Demis Cavina's team and will be on the pitch with Derthona starting on Saturday in Latina. This was confirmed by the sporting director of the Lions Marco Picchi. «Losi trained with us. Tomorrow he will be registered and will leave on Friday with the team to play in Latina."
Why did you decide to add a player?
“There was a discussion within the company which involved all the members of the board in which it was decided to do everything possible to reverse this negative trend. It's clear that we had different expectations, we didn't expect to find ourselves in this ranking situation and we saw the risk of flattening. We wanted to make an economic effort as a club by adding a player and send a message to the team, the coach and the environment: we are here and we want to change this state of affairs."
Why did you choose Jordan Losi?
“We don't think the team has any particular shortcomings. We have probed the market 360 degrees in all directions. We have chosen to increase the quality in the play-guard department. This is why we chose Losi who has certain characteristics, a career that speaks for itself. We think he can give us that leadership and personality that has been missing so far."
Has Demis Cavina ever been questioned?
"Never. We believe that Demis Cavina is the best person to remain in the saddle at this time. With him we made a choice that, personally, I would make again tomorrow morning. On this however, I want to say one thing: Cavina never asked for reinforcements and it is false to say the opposite. He is the first not to be satisfied with the results and the first to question himself."
The environment, accustomed to winning, seems to suffer greatly from this situation.
“I understand that when the results are not satisfactory it is normal to be critical. So you think that with another player, with another coach, things would be different.... The fans have the right to criticize, but I remain convinced that we are not that bad. At the same time it is right to know that everyone, me first and foremost, is under scrutiny. The market is not closed, if there are other opportunities we will seize them."
The impact with Serie A was very difficult, but the fear of exile in Voghera was overcome...
“They knew that from Cervia it was a bit of a leap in the dark with many new things. These first months make me say that many aspects have gone beyond expectations. First of all the public. We wondered how many Tortonesi we would bring to Voghera, and on Sunday we doubled Camagna's historic attendance with 1000 attendance. And then the generous contribution of the sponsors of the city fabric, the enthusiasm of mini-basketball which has record numbers.
