Derthona looks to the future: Grant Basile is a new Lion

A careful look at the present and an eye on the future for Bertram Derthona, who has reached an agreement with the winger Grant Basile valid until June 2026. Grant holds an Italian passport, but not the team, so he cannot currently play as an Italian in Serie A.

CAREER – Born in Pewaukee (Wisconsin) on April 19, 2000, Basile attended Pewaukee High School coached by his father Michael Basile: in recent years he averaged 24.5 points and 13 rebounds. Subsequently he attended the four-year college with the Wright State Raiders jersey, with which he averaged 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds. In 2021/22 he elevates his performance, scoring 18.4 points per outing and collecting 11 double doubles for points and rebounds. That year he scored 20 or more points in sixteen of thirty-six games.

In 2022/23 he transferred to Virginia Tech, a College that leads the year in points scored per game (16.4), scoring 20 or more points on ten occasions and reaching double figures in 29 of the 34 games in which he took the field. Named to the All-ACC Academic Team, he was named ACC Player of the Week on January 30, after averaging 24.5 points, 8 rebounds and 55.3% from the field in victories against Duke and Syracuse.

“We are happy to welcome a highly talented and promising young man like Grant Basile to Tortona – the comment of President Marco Picchi -. We have followed him for a long time on his journey at Virginia Tech and we are convinced that he can represent a great opportunity for us and for Italian basketball. This operation once again certifies our attention to the scouting work headed by Gianmaria Vacirca and to the long-term planning that we have set ourselves as an objective for the future of Derthona Basket".

These are the words of the CEO Ferencz Bartocci: “We give credit to our President Marco Picchi and the technical staff for having concluded a good operation which allows us as a club to bring an excellent, very young player to the Bianconeri, who with his qualities will certainly be able to give us a great contribution. The fact that he also has Italian citizenship opens up even more interesting future scenarios for the entire movement.".
