The captain of the promotion still in Tortona
The Cup raised to the sky in Turin, the decisive baskets in the playoffs, the leadership of a great captain: snapshots that will always remain in the hearts of all the Bianconeri. And that we will continue to experience in the 2021/22 season, the third consecutive that Riccardo Tavernelli will play with Bertram Derthona.
Arriving in Tortona in the summer of 2019, Riccardo was immediately one of the most important players in the team, so much so that he was appointed captain in 2020/21 for his recognized human and technical qualities. Tavernelli wore the number 8 jersey in 64 matches - divided between all competitions - contributing to the conquest of the 2019 Old Wild West LNP Super Cup and the victory of the championship in June 2021: two historic trophies for Bertram Derthona, which is now preparing to live his first season in Serie A.
In this year's promotion playoffs, the captain raised his performance to almost 10 points per game, indelibly marking the Lions' path: his 20 points in Game 4 in Ravenna allowed Bertram to play the game at home, his baskets in Game 1 and Game 4 of the semifinal against Eurobasket Roma earned him the final. Finally, his basket and foul just over a minute from the end of a very tight Game 5 of the final allowed Derthona to realize a dream, the conquest of Serie A.
Now Riccardo will begin his third season in black and white.
