IBSA Next Gen Cup: Allianz Derthona from January 2nd in Rimini to book the ticket for the Final Eight in Brescia
For the third year in a row chasing the Final Eight. Allianz Derthona Tortona starts with good expectations for the second stage in Rimini of the IBSA Next Gen Cup 2024/25, the Legabasket event reserved for the Under 19 Eccellenza teams of the sixteen Serie A clubs.
In the midst of the new year, from 2 to 4 January, in the two facilities of the Palasport Flaminio in Rimini and the Pala SGR in Santarcangelo di Romagna (RN), the black and white team coached by Luca Ansaloni will try to get through to the Final Eight in Brescia, thus following up on the qualification for the finals in Naples and Trento in past years, which ended with a semi-final and second place respectively.
The race to get the ticket to the Brescia final phase resumes against Academy Scafati, Vanoli Cremona and Dolomiti Energia Trentino. In Group A, Allianz will start from first place, shared with Virtus Bologna, Estra Pistoia and Vanoli Cremona. This is the ranking of the two groups at the end of the first four days that were played in the first concentration in Varese from 21 to 24 November:
Group A: Virtus EmilBanca Bologna 6 points, Estra Pistoia 6, Allianz Derthona Tortona 6, Vanoli Cremona 6, Dolomiti Energia Trentino 4, Napolibasket 2, Pallacanestro Varese 2, Academy Scafati 0.
Group B: EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 8 points, Pollini Brescia 6, UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia 6, Umana Reyer Venice 4, Basketball Trieste 4, NutriBullet Treviso 2, Banco di Sardegna Sassari 2, Trapani Shark 0.
FORMULA The top four teams from each group that emerge from the two qualifying stages will qualify for the Final Eight in Brescia on February 21-23. The Final Eight will be organized in crossed quarterfinals with direct elimination, followed by semifinals and the final for the assignment of the title.
WORKSHOP Also for this Romagna stage, two workshops have been organized. The first evening will be dedicated to managers and coaches and will see three interventions by experts in their sector. Fabio Fossati, coach and advisor FIP and FIBA Europe, will talk about the coach as a 360° figure. This will be followed by the nutritionist Laura Mancin (introduced by Marco Martelli, Communication Director of NOVI), who will discuss the principles of team nutrition. Finally, Federico Sbisà, director of Spiideo, will speak on the topic of “Automated sports video solutions”.
The second evening will be dedicated to young people and will feature five prominent guests. Edoardo Procaccini, director of the Scuola dei Campioni, will talk about the on-demand sports high school. Jacopo Tognon, a lawyer and professor at the University of Padua, will address a crucial topic, “Sport and basketball, between educational opportunities and the fight against threats: match-fixing and doping”. Subsequently, journalist and SKY host Alessandro Mamoli will speak about the role of television testimonials in the world of sports. The last two speeches will again be given by Dr. Laura Mancin, who, again introduced by Marco Martelli, will delve into the topic “From statistics to labels”; and finally, Alessandro Mamoli will conduct an interview with former basketball player Luca Vitali.
STATEMENTS Luca Ansaloni, head coach of Allianz: "The first stage saw four definitely useful matches, all fought for most of the race and exciting to watch. The evolution was positive for us, with three consecutive victories after the defeat in the debut. We come to this appointment in a favorable position to be able to aspire to one of the four places that allow access to the second phase", stresses. “The standings are still extremely open and the possibility of advancing is high for all the teams, at least in our group, this means that every match is fundamental. To be able to access the Final Eight in Brescia we will have to win at least two matches, but there is no point in doing calculations: we will play match by match.”
MEDIA All the games of the Rimini concentration will be broadcast live streaming on the official Legabasket website and on the ItalHoop YouTube channel.
