Born in Allentown (Pennsylvania) on May 5, 1993, Cannon completed his high school education at William Allen in Allentown. In his senior year he finished at 19.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, earning the title of The Morning Call (Lehigh Valley) Co-Player of the Year together with Darrun Hilliard, now playing for CSKA Moscow.

He continued his college career at St. Francis University in New York, where he remained for the entire four-year university period. In his first game against Fairleigh Dickinson (February 25, 2012) he grabbed 20 rebounds, the best individual performance by a Division I freshman in the country that season.

Jalen grows in performance year after year, averaging a double double (16.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game) in his senior year (2014/15), winning the NEC (Northeast Conference) Player of the Year title and being included for the second consecutive season in the best quintet of the NEC. Cannon, in 2014/15, became the first athlete in the history of his University to score 1500 points and 1000 in his career and the second ever in the NEC Conference.

In 2015/16 he made his pro debut in Mexico, signing with Jefes de Forza Lagunera with whom he closed the championship as the third best rebounder in the LNBP. The following year he moved to Israel, to Hapoel Afula, a team in the Israel National League, the Israeli A2 Series. His performance, 17.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game with 38.5% from three-point range, attracted the attention of Agrigento who brought him to Italy during the summer of 2017.

Cannon immediately became a strong point on the tactical board of the Sicilian team, closing the first season with 15.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in almost 37 minutes of average use, shooting 57% from two points. His performances guaranteed the team coached by Franco Ciani access to the promotion playoffs, which ended with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fortitudo Bologna (then eliminated 3-1 by Casale Monferrato in the semi-final) in the first round.

Jalen remained in Sicily also in the following year, in which he achieved absolutely excellent numbers (16.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per outing), collecting 9 double doubles for points and rebounds and reaching double figures for points scored in twenty-seven of the twenty-eight games played in the 'vintage. The playoffs for the Sicilians faded only in the last days of the regular season, but his performances earned him the call of NPC Rieti, a team involved in the West Group of the Serie A2 Old Wild West championship.

In the three games played in the LNP Super Cup 2019 Old Wild West with the Lazio team, Cannon recorded important numbers: 21.3 points and 8.7 rebounds on average in 32.6 minutes of average use. Jalen confirmed himself as an important athlete for coach Alessandro Rossi also during the regular season, in which he scored 10 or more points in twenty-four of the twenty-five games played (exceeding 20 points on ten occasions), also finishing with six double-doubles for points and rebounds . The 19.2 points scored per outing, to which he adds 7.5 rebounds, during 2019/20 are his career high in the three years he played in Italy. Now he comes to Bertram Yachts Derthona to start a new chapter in his career.
