Born in Bologna on 30 March 1997, Leonardo took his first steps in the clubs Giocare Insieme and Polisportiva Lame, before moving to Fortitudo Bologna where he continued his career in the youth sector. Candi made his first team debut in 2013/14, in DNB, while the following year he was the starting point guard of the team that won the B2.
In 2015/16 he produced 7.5 points on average and was elected Best Under 22 of the Serie A2 championship. With Fortitudo he reached the final promotion, losing against Brescia in the fifth and decisive match.
He remained in Bologna also the following year, contributing to the success in the Super Cup, the first trophy of the season. In that season Fortitudo then reached the promotion semi-final, where they were eliminated by Trieste 3-2.
In the summer of 2017 Leonardo moved to Reggio Emilia, in Serie A, a team with which he signed a five-year contract. Since his first year in the top flight, Candi has played an important role within the team's roster.
In 2017/18 he took the field in both the championship and the EuroCup, producing 3 points on average per game. In the following seasons Leonardo contributed to Reggio Emilia's salvation, becoming captain of the team starting from 2020/21.
In the year just ended, he recorded his maximum in Serie A for points per game (8.8) in the 13 regular season games played.
With the national team he took the field with the Under 18, the Under 20, the Experimental and the senior teams, with whom he took the field on 9 occasions. Now he comes to Bertram Derthona to start a new chapter in his career.
