Germani Brescia-Bertram Derthona: the Super Cup semi-final will be the fifth match in Serie A between the two teams
Just over twenty-four hours until the start of the first official match of the season, the Frecciarossa Supercoppa 2023. The semi-final which will pit Bertram Derthona and Germani Brescia it will be the fifth meeting in the Series between the two teams.
THE CHALLENGES IN SERIES A – The balance of the four matches between the two teams is perfectly equal: two victories each. In 2021/22, the Lions' first season in Serie A, the team coached by coach Ramondino won the first success in its history in the top flight at the PalaLeonessa in Brescia. At the end of a tight game, Bertram won 77-79. Success for the Bianconeri also in the return match, played at the PalaEnergica Paolo Ferraris. On 13 April 2022, Germani arrives in Casale fresh from a string of 14 consecutive victories which immediately put them behind Milan and Virtus Bologna: it is a top match in which Derthona, after a complex first half, turns the game around in the third quarter (partial score of 30-13), led by Wright and Macura, and gave the fans a night to remember: at the buzzer the score was 81-74.
In the 2022/23 season, however, Brescia won both championship matches. In the first leg, played at PalaLeonessa, the team coached by Magro took command of the score from the first half and widened their gap to the final 83-68, resisting all of Bertram's comeback attempts. The return match, played at PalaEnergica, sees Derthona protagonist of a new great comeback - fueled by the quintet with Daum, Severini and Radošević on the pitch at the same time in the third quarter - which takes the match to extra time. In overtime, the precision of Gabriel and the entire Germani (5/5) from beyond the arc gave the victory to the guests (77-90).
NEW CHALLENGE IN THE CUP – The two teams have never faced each other in either the Super Cup or the Italian Cup in Derthona's two Serie A seasons. For both, the semi-final scheduled for Saturday 23 September at 20.45pm represents a historic opportunity to reach the first Super Cup final.
THE EXERS OF THE MATCH – There are three former players from Saturday's match, two who will take the field with the Germani Brescia shirt, one with Bertram Derthona. Amedeo Della Valle he played, as a very young man, with the Lions' jersey in Serie C1 (2009/10), while Semaj Christon he was a great protagonist - with an almost MVP-caliber season - of the great results obtained by the team coached by Ramondino in the season just ended.
Arrived in the summer wearing the Bertram Derthona jersey, Andrea Zerini he was part of the Brescia roster from 2018 to 2020, playing both the Serie A and EuroCup competitions in both years with the Lombard team.
