Fioretti: "We're closing out a very satisfying regular season for the entire club."
In the press conference following Venezia-Derthona, Mario Fioretti savoured a victory that gave a sweet taste to the regular season conducted by his Bertram.
"It was a very tough game. We approached the entire game well defensively, with great attitude," began the Tortona coach. "At certain points, we had a slump on offense, both in our decision-making and with a series of missed shots, even open ones. In this sense, the third quarter was terrible offensively, but then we played one of the best quarters of the year, the last one, moving the ball, converting all those extra passes into baskets, and taking home a crucial victory against an opponent with excellent skills at every position. We're happy; we're finishing the season with 18 wins, if you include the game against Trapani: truly a great satisfaction for the boys, the coaching staff, and the entire club."
The victory at Taliercio adds to the quarterfinal victory over Venice, but for Fioretti it means nothing in view of the new, imminent playoff matches: "We're in the playoffs with home-field advantage for Venice. You have the experience, like I do, of many, many playoffs, and you know that everything opens up again," he said, addressing local journalists. "You take it one game at a time, you leave the past behind, you start from scratch, and we'll be ready to go head-to-head with Venice despite the disadvantage of home-field advantage."
