Eight new faces in the black and white family
After having already seen them on the field in official matches, treading the Cittadella pitch, it is time for presentations for our players too. eight new athletes!
Here are the statements of the manager responsible for the youth sector Andrea Ablatico:
“Every year the military service obligations change the rosters of all the youth sectors. We say goodbye to that group (the 2005 one) which was probably the best ever for Derthona Basket. Players who will make a good impression in the national B league have left (Baldi, Erica, Tambwe, Tale e Prepare) or in interregional B (Bellinaso R. e Moor) and who have brought us unthinkable results, demonstrating the goodness of our technical staff. Replacing them will be practically impossible, if you think in terms of results on the field. Our philosophy has led us to choose players with prospects but who above all have shown the desire to embrace our project.
From Basket Roma has arrived Edward April, a 190cm guard from 2005, very tough and versatile. With a Serie C championship in Lazio behind him, I'm sure he'll be the perfect glue to assemble the veterans of last season with the new arrivals.
From Stars Basket Bologna, instead, came James Brizzi, 2006cm tall power forward born in 202. He was the last cut of the U18 national team this summer and like him Ousmane Cherif Cisse (another 2006 of 200cm from Lanciano) will need a period of adaptation to these levels, but they will keep us at the top both in B interregional and in U19 Eccellenza. Acting as mother hen to this group (for once we make an exception by inserting a senior) will be Nicholas CatsThe 1991 winger, who grew up in our youth sector, after a decade spent wandering around Italy in Serie B, will enrich our technical staff and bring his experience to support our interregional B team on the pitch
We then thought about working more on the "low" years to give perspective also for the next seasons. The under17 Eccellenza will be the group on which we will focus for a three-year project with big aspirations. For this reason we have added, from GGS Cuneo the 2008 playmaker (teammate of our Bresciani and Bellinaso W.) of 186cm Edoardo Di Meo and the English international Rufus Wilkinson (2 meter winger from 2009). I have high expectations for them as well as for our research in the area. This research led us to register the two Casalesi Andrei Flueras (201cm power forward from 2008) and Gabriele Dusio (2-meter center from 2009), while from the consolidated collaboration with BEA Chieri came the outside Joel Obakhavbaye, 190cm tall, 2009. We have been following them for years and I am sure of their potential.
Our work involves, where possible, having Piedmont players at the center of the project. It would not make sense otherwise for a youth sector structured like ours that looks to the future and to the enhancement of the territory.
As I said elsewhere, we do not set limits or objectives, if we talk about results. Working on young people presupposes patience at the root and it cannot be a few defeats or a few victories that change the development work of individual players.
Perspective is everything. I’m curious to see what kind of season this will be.”
