Edoardo Buffo: “Basketball Without Borders was unforgettable. An honor to be in Tortona”
Start of the season to remember for Edward Buffo, new reinforcement of the Youth Sector of Bertram Derthona: the player born in 2001 participated in Basketball Without Borders Europe, the prestigious camp organized by the NBA and FIBA, which took place in Belgrade. For Buffo ʺBeing invited to such an important event was very satisfying, because I had the opportunity to interact with personalities of the highest level, including Gregg Popovich. The Spurs coach is a person whose presence enriches both on a basketball and human level, he is able to put everyone around him at ease. The meeting with Trinchieri was also pleasant, as was the meeting with the personalities present in Belgrade.
The camp saw some of the best European prospects of the 2001 year compete against each other, a great opportunity that Buffo exploited to ʺunderstand if I was able to handle that level and that pace. On an athletic level the level was very high, but from a technical point of view I think I managed to hold the field well: for me this is a very important starting point to grow and try to reach the best possible level.
For Buffo, Basketball Without Borders was a useful experience not only on a basketball level, but also on a human level, because ʺI met people from other countries with whom I lived in the hotel: I formed a beautiful bond of friendship with them. Being able to compare myself with some EuroLeague players, especially Serbian ones, allowed me to receive useful advice to improve some aspects of my game..
Having concluded the prestigious experience in Belgrade, the player has already started training with the first team Bertram Derthona: this season the guard will also play with the Under 18 DNG and C Silver of Olympia Voghera. After the year at Virtus Bologna, Buffo expressed his first impressions on his new sporting reality, which ʺIt seems very beautiful to me and full of people who want to do well this year. It will be my first experience at a senior level, having the opportunity to train with great players is an honor for me and I will always try to put my maximum effort into respecting the shirt that I will wear on any occasionʺ.
