Marco Spanghero is the first new face of Derthona 2017/18
The first new face of Derthona 2017/18 is Marco Spanghero. 186 cm playmaker, born in Trieste on 31 August 1991, Spanghero comes from Enel Brindisi, the club with which he played in Serie A last season. He will wear the number 45 shirt.
Spanghero grew up in the youth sector of Servolana and Pallacanestro Trieste, wearing the red and white from the youth sector up to the first team (2009/10 season). At nineteen he moved to Trento, where he played for two seasons in Serie B1, winning the championship at the second attempt with 7.2 points and 1.4 assists in 19' on average.
Spanghero continued in Trento also in the two years of Serie A2, winning the Italian Cup in 2012/13 and achieving a historic promotion to Serie A the following season, finishing with 7.5 points and 2.5 assists in 22' of average usage. The debut in Serie A took place in the following season, in which his team qualified for the Final Eight of the Italian Cup and the playoffs: for Spanghero, 6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 19'.
In the summer of 2015 he moved to Verona where, thanks to a series of physical problems, he was unable to leave his mark; in 2016 he moved to Enel Brindisi, in Serie A, where he played 28 games and scored 2.2 points in 11 minutes of use. Over the course of his career he has had many experiences with the national team: he played for the Azzurri in Under16, Under18, Under20 and in the experimental national team of 2014.

Since Tuesday morning, when we first raised the possibility of hiring him, all the members have worked hard for the positive conclusion of the agreement, an unmistakable sign of the desire to work together. We are bringing in a very talented player, who has already accumulated a long experience in this championship and who saw Derthona as a great opportunity to return to being a protagonist after a couple of seasons that were not exactly easy. I am convinced that an environment like that of Tortona will be everything Marco needs."

I really want to play and have fun because in the last two years, for various reasons, I haven't been able to find the most suitable situation to express myself. I enthusiastically welcomed Derthona's proposal, with the aim of returning to being the player I was in Trento, I really want to go back to playing with a smile on my face. Tortona? I have followed his path in recent years because some of my former teammates played there (Garri in Trento, Ricci in Verona) and I have seen a club grow rapidly, achieving constantly progressive results. I recently attended game 4 of the playoff quarter-finals in Trieste: who would have thought that what I saw in the stands would become my team in the space of a few weeks?”
