Double Hit: Simoncelli and Polk

Double Hit: Simoncelli and Polk

Two new additions to the Juventus roster: Alexander Simoncelli, Italian point guard and Christian Polk, the first American in the history of Tortona basketball.

Let's start with the point guard: Derthona Basket is happy to announce that it has reached an agreement with Alexander Simoncelli for the next two seasons. Alexander chose to wear the number 11 shirt.
The pair of playmakers who will hold the keys to coach Cavina's team will thus be entirely Italian. The already proven couple at the time of Casalpusterlengo Venuto / Simoncelli is reunited and in fact the company had no doubts in inking Alex.

Marco Picchi says: "It was a quick negotiation, the idea was to look for a foreign point guard but when the possibility of signing Simoncelli arose we wasted no time and reached an agreement"

Simoncelli on the other hand: “I had spoken to Marco Venuto on several occasions and he always spoke well of the environment. With Marco we shared many experiences on and off the field and when the possibility of playing together again arose I didn't miss the opportunity. I don't see the opportunity to start this new adventure."

Simoncelli, born in Bussolengo on 11/06/1986, is a 188 cm point guard. Raised in the Casalpusterlengo youth sector, he played with that shirt from 2003 to 2011, winning two editions of the Italian A Dilettanti Cup (2007 and 2009). Always with Casalpusterlengo he played two Legadue championships before moving to Legadue again in Brindisi for the first part of the 2011/2012 championship which still ended in Legadue but in Piacenza where he played an average of 22.3 minutes for 5.8 points (41,5% from two , 34,9% from three and 80% from free throws). In 2012/2013 he moved to Castelletto Ticino as a starting point guard in DNA and helped the Piedmontese win the Final Four of the Italian Cup. In the 2013/2014 season he played for Silver in Florence where he closed the season with an average of 9 points per game in 31 minutes played with 29,5% two-pointers, 35,2% three-pointers and 80% free throws. Alex was also part of the LNP under 22 national team in the summer of 2008 and of the university national team at the Belgrade games in 2009.

The first player in the history of Derthona Basket is called Christian Polk.
Christian is a 190cm guard and was born in Glendale, Arizona in December 1987.
He began college in 2006 with Arizona State and in 2008 moved to the University of Texas-El Paso where he played the last two years averaging 10.6 points.
In 2012 he played in the D League (the NBA development league) with Springfield and achieved very respectable numbers (9.4 points per game with 37% two-pointers and 37% three-pointers).
Last season he arrived in Europe in Greece with the Kaod shirt (12.7 points on average) and then a quick appearance in Riga (11 points on average in just 4 games)

Welcome to Christian and Alex from all the staff!!!
