VOGHERA. Treviglio beats Derthona 85-83. The Lions' streak stopped at six consecutive victories, winning thirteen games out of fifteen matches in the second half of the season, finishing in second place. Derthona will meet Mantua in the play offs. With Ricci out due to a wrist problem Cavina launches Cucci into a quintet with Cosey, Greene, Garri and Sanna. Vertemati chooses Mezzanotte, Sollazzo, Marino, Rossi and Sorokas. Derthona starts 4-0, but Treviglio responds with a bomb from Marino and a tap-in from Mezzanotte. Cavina's already short rotations become complicated when two fouls are called against Sanna in a few seconds. The game is low scoring, but the pace is high. Garri scores in the low post, Marino stops from the line. Conti, Alviti and Mascherpa already enter the first period. Genovese scores the three-pointer to make it 17-17. The first quarter ends 21-18 for Derthona who are clearly superior in rebounding (15-4), but struggle from long range (1/8). We return to the field and Cucci and Sollazzo score. Greene steals and runs on the counterattack earning a three-point play which is worth the first minibreak of the match (29-23 for Derthona). Derthona continues to rebound well and finds good shots. Greene unloads for Alviti who scores the place kick and Vertemati calls a time-out (35-27). The Lions increase their defensive intensity and Remer doesn't find good spacing: 3'50'' from the long siren, Derthona is ahead 39-27: Alviti gets up from the three-point line for +12. The first half ends 50-36 with Treviglio having an important contribution only from Marino (14 points). The third period begins and the fourth foul effectively puts Sanna out of play, Derthona remains ahead by double figures. Two free throws from Greene give the +17. The locals manage to maintain and manage a double-digit lead. Garri scores from three points, then Mascherpa is whistled for an unsportsmanlike nature and Sanna is called a technical whistle (her match is over) and Remer returns to the game: five consecutive points from Cesana and the guests are at -7. Cucci and Cosey put things back in order at the end of the third quarter, the Bianconeri finished 68-58 but lost Alviti for the second foul. The last quarter begins and Cosey with five consecutive points tries to give the decisive push to the last match of the regular seasons: Derthona is back up by 15 points. But Treviglio doesn't give up and a bomb from Marino brings Remer back to -5. We go the other way and Cucci fouls in attack, the game is point to point and the end is fiery with a technical that is whistled to Cavina. Sorokas scores the two free throws and brings Remer up by three points, we go the other way and Cosey equalizes. Last shot in Marino's hands, Rossi takes the offensive rebound and gives Treviglio the victory. It ends 85-83 for the guests.

Demis Cavina: «It was a race conditioned by many factors. We started the fourth quarter with an invented four and Treviglio is one of the worst teams to play with small quintets. The situation that decided the game was an attacking rebound. The boys gave everything starting from Greene who shouldn't have played. We wanted to win, the end of a regular season where we did something special and it showed again tonight in an emergency situation. It's a team that has a soul and that plays well together. Treviglio put us in difficulty in the first leg and again tonight with clever players like Marino and Rossi. Let's recharge our batteries, we will play the play offs against Mantua. They will be difficult races from a technical point of view, but I think we have the right determination and the right approach."

Adriano Vertemati: «Both teams played a real and exciting match, we recovered in the last quarter. Tortona's rotation became short with Ricci's absence, we played with ten men and in the end it paid off. In the last quarter Marino entered the streak. We took a lead in the second quarter that we didn't think we would be able to overcome, but then we did well to get back into the game."
