Perfect match for Derthona who against Piombino seem to have definitively rediscovered the structure of the first phase of the championship. Excellent performance by the entire Arioli team sealed by a commendable personal performance by Samoggia: 29 points with 12/18 shooting and 8 rebounds. The Bianconeri started off very strong: in attack on the wave of an inspired Viglianisi, author of 3 consecutive bombs, while in defense they closed ranks, forcing the guests into two 24-second infringements practically in a row. The home team's lead of 11-4 in the 5th minute was further extended when Samoggia began its show, ending the first half already ahead by ten points 22-12. But it's only the beginning: in the second quarter the Tortona winger scores two triples in a row, also inspiring the rest of the team.
Gioria's arrival on the pitch strengthens the defense even more and shows the usual offensive incisiveness and when Cernivani also hits from long distance the game is practically over after only 15 minutes of play, at 39-12 (+27). Derthona runs at full speed with assists aplenty (11 assists in 20 minutes) and Piombino is a shadow of the team that had beaten Fortitudo a week earlier: at halftime the score was 43-22. When the game resumed, as expected, the Tuscans attempted full-court pressing, but Derthona did not fall apart and remained on track. The gap drops to 13 points and the usual Rotondo takes care of re-establishing the distance with some Karim Abdul Jabbar-style hook conclusions. At 30' the lions are ahead 56-39 and it's not over yet.
In the last fraction there is still time for the indomitable Samoggia who sends the local public into raptures and practically closes the hostilities by bringing the advantage back to more than twenty points, while on the opposite front Iannili reacts with pride (15 points and as many rebounds ) for a final at the buzzer of 66-48. Saturday night's success thus seals the mathematical record in the standings ahead of the two games remaining to finish the regular season.
Meanwhile, Bologna always lacks continuity, also falling to Empoli and thus also risking second place given the comeback of the Piacenza-Cecina duo.
Anything can really happen and even the clock phase promises to be very interesting as well as challenging given that four matches will be played in ten days, after the Easter break, between 24 April and 3 May. But first there are still two matches: on Sunday we go to Livorno, fresh from the defeat in Pavia, fighting not to be relegated.
