Crockett and Galloway 42 points, 14 rebounds and 46 rating. Greene and Richard 14 points, 13 rebounds and 25 rating. This is not the entire explanation of Tortona's victory but analyzing these numbers certainly helps. Richard is clearly limited by the problem in his hand and is saved only by rebounding, Greene is limited to 9 shots by Simoncelli's excellent defense and never manages to enter the game..
Matera starts with Greene, Bonessio, Migliori, Richard and Tagliabue. Coach Cavina replies with Simoncelli, Galloway, Tavernari, Crockett and Rotondo. Good start for the Lucanians with Tagliabue highlighting his offensive rebounds which were not always converted into points. So from 3-0 away we go in an instant to 10-3 for the Piedmontese with two triples from Galloway and two baskets from Crockett. The match is played under the boards with Tagliabue scoring twice (the second with an additional free throw) to which Rotondo responds. Two triples from Galloway and Venuto interspersed with a single from Greene allow the home team to make their first move. Thanks to a basket by Tavernari at the siren, the first quarter ends at 26 to 19 for the Piedmontese with 7 points by Tagliabue for the guests.
Five consecutive points from Crockett at the start of the quarter allowed Tortona to gain the lead. Coach Di Lorenzo quickly calls two timeouts but in an instant the scoreboard reads 36 to 21 with Crockett at 14 taking advantage of the rest granted to Tagliabue. Cucco has a good attitude and impact from the bench but at half-time the local lead was 19 points. 48 to 29 the partial (22 to 10 in the quarter), 50% from the field for Tortona and 57 to 23 evaluation.
Tortona slows down for a moment and after 10 fouls called in the first two minutes of the third quarter including a technical call on Greene in reaction to a foul by Simoncelli. Greene, caught by the local crowd, tries to get into the game but it's not an evening. Migliori tries to keep Matera alive who narrows slightly towards the end before the final break at 62 to 48.
Tortona goes with 3 plays together to manage and immediately gets a partial score of 10 to 2 which forces coach Di Lorenzo into yet another timeout. Two triples from Cucco and one from Tagliabue bring Matera closer to 76 to 66 with 3'30" left until the siren. Tortona finds two points with Rotondo to stop the offensive blackout and brings home the two points that keep them in contact with the playoff zone. 82 to 70 the final.
