VOGHERA. Derthona wins the third match in the last four matches against Latina and maintains third place together with Siena (who won in extra time in Reggio Calabria) and ahead of Agropoli (who lost against Roma). It ends 74-62, with the partial scored in the second quarter (23-15) decisive for the match. Coach Cavina starts with Spissu, Simoncelli, Marks, Brooks and Garri. On the opposite side, Gramenzi chooses Uglietti, Mei, Tavernelli, Tagliabue and Novacic, a Croatian winger born in 1985 who is 201 centimeters tall and who arrived at Benacquista to strengthen the Pontine roster following the further injury suffered by Chace Stanback. The first points of the match were scored by Garri after a pick n'roll with Spissu. But the first part of the match is dominated by the defenses, the teams score little and Cavina makes the first rotation by putting Offenses for Marks. Mei penetrates the layup and after 5' the score is 4-4. Teams shoot with low percentages. Tavernelli scores in transition, Reati replies in penetration. Mei adds two more, Garri works in post with Novacic and scores with the hook (11-10). He closes the quarter with a great touch after taking his own rebound (11-12).

Uglietti and Grande score at the start of the second quarter: Latina makes the first mini break (16-11), but Tortona immediately comes back behind with Garri and then with Reati. Bianchi completes the comeback with a bomb, Brooks with his back to the basket gives the Lions the lead again with 5'29'' left. The break increases with four points in a row from Marks (29-21) with 2'43'' left in the second period. Latina gets back into the game with four in a row from Tagliabue (29-25), but the end is black and white. Spissu penetrates and unloads for Garri (already a double double at the end of the first half with 11 points and 11 rebounds), Bianchi sends Derthona along at the break with the maximum advantage (34-27). Without Mosley and Ihedioha the Pontini suffer in rebounding where Tortona is superior (27 to 16).

The third quarter begins and Marks scores from long range, Gramenzi protests for a pass called to his team and gets the technical. Marks scores again from three making six points in a row and Tortona tries to escape (40-27). Garri also scores from long range and makes a free throw that makes it 44-31. Latina tries to come back with Uglietti, but Bianchi has a hot hand and puts two left-handed bombs in a row (50-38). Pastore scores from long range and gets a technical foul which cancels the comeback attempt (53-41). Latina gets back to -9 with Grande and the third quarter ends 58-49.

The final period begins and Marks and Simoncelli score (three-pointers) bringing the lead back to double figures (63-51). Spissu makes it a three, but Latina stays in the game with a penetration by Grande (66-56). Garri and Simoncelli always give the decisive push to the match from long range (72-56). Derthona manages the final and takes home their third victory (74-62) in the last four games.
