Press conference presentation of the 2016/17 season
The presentation of the 2016/2017 season by Derthona Basket was held at the PalaCamagna in the presence of the CEO Luigino Fassino, the General Manager Marco Picchi and the confirmed coach Demis Cavina.
The first to speak was Picchi himself, pointing out that, with the championship still underway, the club is already planning the future to give continuity to an unforgettable season and that Coach Cavina's confirmation came precisely in the name of this continuity.
“Moments of reflection were necessary on how to continue the activity given the events already commented and communicated in another press conference and it was decided to continue also as a testimony of affection towards the city and towards the fans who have always been close to us and have amazed many times. “
Picchi talks about how the club was afraid of moving to Voghera and we know how it went, the same fear arose again for the playoffs in Casale and then closed with the caravan of fans who moved to Cremona for game 5 against Brescia.
“We want to consolidate at this level and we will need the help of all those who love Derthona Basket, both those who are able to give financial help and those who want to sign up for a season ticket and those who want to dedicate a few hours of their free time to help society.
The objective is consolidation: we don't want to be an extra even if we have to forget last season's result and consider this new season as our year zero. We want to do well and to do well we start from the best coach in the championship."
It was then Cavina's turn who commented with satisfaction on his renewed bond with Tortona even in a basketball where it is increasingly difficult to link oneself to one place.
“As Marco already said, we need to consolidate and forget about last year's ride. The championship is increasingly difficult and competitive with continuous surprises. As newly promoted players we were certainly a surprise and we would like to continue to be so. The objective is to have a quiet season which means getting out of the quicksand of the lower rankings as soon as possible and staying in the middle of the table. Then, if we are good and humble, try to reach eighth place.
Personally, I have never had any major doubts about continuing in Tortona, a city that is very close to my way of being. It is a serious and ambitious company. A conscious human choice also because the club is structuring itself to continue to be a reality of Italian basketball and still has great margins for improvement. We are already working with Edoardo Casalone and Valeriano D'Orta to build the team knowing that we will have many new faces and like last year we will choose the players from a human point of view even before a technical one."
From a technical point of view, Picchi confirmed the agreement with Davide Reati and announced that he is working on the details for the confirmation of Luca Garri while the arrival from Lecco of Giulio Mascherpa is official.
As regards the season ticket campaign, Picchi also announced that it will be based on the choice of seat at the PalaOltrepò in Voghera and that season ticket holders will be offered an equal seat at the PalaFerraris during the forced exile due to the expansion works, recalling that the club expects a concrete signal by the fans.
Fassino closed by recalling that the season will still start in Casale Monferrato and we expect the same crowd as the last playoffs where we were a good team with a great coach. We start again with the same coach and I am sure that Demis will be able to achieve great results again.
