Artūrs Strautinš: physicality and athleticism for Derthona

Bertram Derthona announces that the agreement has been reached with Artūrs Strautinš, winger born in '98, Latvian by birth but Italian by training, who in recent seasons has worn the UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia tank top.

CAREER – Born in Jurmala (Latvia) on 23 October 1998, Strautinš played in the Latvian second division, with DSN Riga, from 2012 to 2014. In 2013, at the age of 14, he became the second youngest player in debut in the top national championship, wearing the LMT Basketball Academy jersey.

At the end of this two-year period, Artūrs moved to Pallacanestro Reggiana, where he remained - in his first experience in Emilia - from 2014 to 2017. He made his debut in Serie A in January 2015, while in the following season he was part of the roster that played both the championship and the EuroCup.

After three years in Reggio Emilia, the player born in 98 began the 2017/18 season in Capo d'Orlando, before moving to Orzinuovi in November 2017. With the Lombard team, playing in Serie A2, he produced over 11 points on average per game.

The next stage of his career was Trieste, with which - with almost 7 points on average - he contributed to reaching the playoffs, which ended with the elimination at the hands of Vanoli Cremona in the quarter-finals. In 2019/20, after an initial part of the season spent in Trieste, he went to Udine, in Serie A2, where he produced almost 12 points per match in the six matches played before the championships were stopped due to Covid-19.

Artūrs is back in Serie A, in Varese, in 2020/21: with the Lombard team he carves out a leading role and records over 10 points per outing with good percentages (37.7%) in three-point shooting.

In 2021/22 he accepted the proposal of UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia, returning to the team in which he had his first Italian experience: Strautinš was immediately an important player on the board of the team led by Attilio Caja which reached the playoff quarter-finals and the FIBA Europe Cup final, lost against Bahçesehir. In the year just ended he contributed to the salvation of the Reggio Emilia team.

With Latvia he went through the youth national team up to the senior national team, coached from 2021 by Luca Banchi. Now Strautinš comes to Bertram Derthona to start a new chapter in his career.

“One of the goals of our market is to add athleticism and physicality to the roster – the words of Marco Picchi, President of Bertram Derthona -. From this perspective, Strautinš is one of the first names we have considered since recent months. The negotiation was complicated and took its time, but in the end mutual will prevailed, so we are happy to have with us a player who is still young but already established.".
