Further good indications for the Lions from the scrimmage against Openjobmetis Varese: faced with a physical and talented team, the Bianconeri showed good fluidity and collaboration in both halves of the pitch. Derthona is now preparing to debut in the Discovery + Supercoppa 2021 presented by Unipolsai which will start on Monday 6 September at 21pm at the Allianz Dome against Pallacanestro Trieste.

Coach Ramondino confirms the same starting five as in the first scrimmage also in the match against Varese, which starts at a high pace before suffering the return of the Lions: in the 10th minute the score is 18 all. In the second period the match continues with the same leitmotif as the previous minutes, with the two teams playing openly and scoring with good percentages: Derthona finishes ahead 40-41. Upon returning from the locker rooms, the Bianconeri tried to extend their lead, taking advantage of the offensive streak of Daum, Mascolo and Filloy, before being overtaken by their opponent at the end of the half. The last quarter was played in the name of balance: Varese tried to place the decisive break midway through the period, but Bertram reacted, raising the intensity of her defense, returning several times to just one possession away. In the point-to-point final, the home team's coolness on the line allowed them to prevail 89-88.

The comment of the assistant coach Massimo Galli: ʺPer It's always nice to return to Varese, where I have many friends, even if they are now adversaries. Analyzing the match, we played well against a team that had a better start to the match than us, before our return, which occurred progressively as the minutes passed. We found good solutions on both sides of the pitch, despite once again being without three Americans. This scrimmage is a good start for the next match on Monday when the season will officially begin.
