Gulliver Supermercati Derthona suffered an away defeat in Oleggio on the third day of the Serie B Interregionale championship in the Conference Nord Group B.
In Boffalora Sopra Ticino, Tortona slipped up, and the home team, Magic Oleggio, prevailed. Derthona got off to a strong start, dictating the game against Oleggio, capitalizing on the hosts' numerous turnovers. The red-and-whites responded quickly, and Tortona conceded a run that put Oleggio within striking distance. The teams headed to the locker rooms with the score at 34-35 in favor of the Lions. Derthona suffered a comeback from Oleggio, finding themselves behind for the first time (38-37). Gulliver's difficult period continued, sinking into double digits and entering the final ten minutes of play with the red-and-whites leading 52-42. Derthona didn't give up, closing the gap to just two possessions with the Di Meo and Josovic duo (54-50) at the start of the fourth quarter. The Bianconeri's strong run didn't last long, allowing the home team to maintain their lead and extend their lead, falling back to within 10 points with just seconds left. The score ended 71-61 for the home team, also marking Gulliver Derthona's second league defeat.
Coach Talpo's post-match comments: "It was a two-faced game, decided by a third quarter where, unlike the first half, we stopped sharing the ball. This facilitated the opponent's offensive transitions, thanks to the physicality Oleggio displayed on defense, making it difficult to get back into the game, especially given the lack of energy and clarity in our attacks that could have closed the gap. We're returning to the gym to work on our mistakes, which are due to our young age, but which are essential for our continued growth."
Gulliver Derthona's next match, the fourth matchday of the Interregional Serie B, is Saturday, October 18th, away to Olgiate against Marnate.
